Exodus - Exhibit B The Human Condition

May be a little over the top for me but I'm giving it a spin anyway.  :D

Rick Craig turned me onto this record. It is a large acoustic electric combo, all instrumental, very jazzy, but not really happy straight ahead jam. Sometimes trance-like, always very intelligent. Rich harmonically, but melodically kind of simple. Dynamic, punchy, masculine. Sometimes pretty far out, but never leaving you behind. Smarter than MMW, and MUCH better recorded. Not as showoffy as Bromberg, more experimental, deeper.  Iirc, Rick knows the recordist, it was done in Brooklyn.

The super-group you have probably never heard of!

The Mob - The Mob

Featuring members of Winger, Kings X, Night Ranger and Whitesnake this is worth a spin if you like any of the bands I just mentioned.

Rich-

I'd never heard of Sickafoose and I can't believe I missed him.  He's played with some of my favorites.

The excerpts I listened to from Tiny Resistors (great title) remind me of Pat Metheny's work such as Still Life (Talking) and his later work.  It's melodic, lush and complex but not without reason.  Very nice.  I think that record has moved to the top of my want list.

C.W.McCall: Black Bear Road

Picked up this LP at the thrift shop not because of the music or the sound, but rather because of the history behind it.

C.W. McCall was not a sing but rather a fictional character from a series of TV ads for a Old Home Bread in Nebraska in the early 70s. McCall was a trucker that delivered the bread to stores in the ads. The character became so popular the one of the folks at the ad agency that came up with the campaign got the idea to try and produce an album based on this character. The recording sessions ended up turning out a run away top 40 hit in "Convoy" which sold over 10 million copies. The producer was a fellow by the name of Chip Davis. He took his share of the profits and used it to start his own record company, named American Gramophone. And the rest is audiophile history.

John Klemmer: Barefoot Ballet

The joy of sax.  (Sorry I couldn't resist)

Sounds better than any piece of mid 70s, bone stock, mass market ABC vinyl has the right to.

Ry Cooder: Jazz

One of the most sought after (read: expensive) of the Mobile Fidelity LP releases. Mine is just a plain stock Warner Bros pressing. Still a good sounding New Orleans type jazz album.

Ella Fitzgerald Sings the George and Ira Gershwin Songbook (with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra)

Got this 5 LP Verve Box set At the thrift shop Independence Day 1/2 off sale this afternoon. The box itself was beat to hell, but the 5 vintage 1959 LPs are in pristine condition. And the normal record price of $0.69 was knocked down to $0.35. That's only 7 cents a record!!!!!

God Bless America!

Great Verve sound although it is a little different hearing Ella with  an orchestra as opposed to a jazz or swing band. Not bad mind you, just different.
