Heard an NPR interview with Trombone Shorty while in the car with my wife.  They intermixed his comments with cuts from the new album.  My wife and I rarely agree on music (she: country music and Broadway tunes, me: not those things, usually) but we both found every track on the record at least enjoyable, at best inspiring.  Great stuff.

Jeff Beck: Emotion & Commotion

New studio album from Jeff Beck. Contains the brilliant guitar work one would expect, but there is something that is sonically just not right. While each of the instruments is well recoded in and of itself, there is no sense that they are playing in the same place. As a matter of fact, there is a disturbing lack of any spacial information at all. You get no impression of where the room boundaries were or even if the musicians were in the same room at the same time. Just left me with a strange feeling.

"One for the Woofer"

from Brian Bromberg, "It's About Time - The Acoustic Project"

Bob In St. Louis turned me onto Brian Bromberg, acoustic jazz bass player. Muscular modern bebopish real jazz. Coming from my 4" single drivers in bass laded horns I couldn't believe the bass sound on this track, "One for the Woofer"  It does show off your lower regions, that's for sure. Excellent record!

Easy Star's Lonely Hearts Dub Band

This time the East Star Reggae artists take on Sgt. Pepper. The sound quality is not up to what they did on their Dark Side release (which was actually quite good), but it is still a fun and interesting interpretation of the Beatles classic album.

ERNEST ANSERMET  CONDUCTING L'ORCHESTRE DE LA SUISSE ROMANDE
BIZET: 'L'ARLESIENNE -SUITE' AND 'CARMEN'.

Original London Blue Back pressing. A few more clicks & pops than I would like to hear, but a fantastic Ansermet performance and that beautiful London ffss sound, so I will just have to put up with the background noise until I can find a better copy. Does anyone know if this LP was ever released as an audiophile reissue?

Rich & Bob,

Thanks for the heads up on Brian Bromberg. I have not been able to find "It's About Time" yet, but the library system has several other of his albums that I have requested  to be shipped to my home branch (you just gotta love the on-line catalog system - access to the entire collections of all 50+ libraries in the county, without ever leaving the mancave.  :thumb: )

The first to arrive was "Downright Upright"

Great music Great Sound. I can't wait for the others to arrive. [-o<

Record Store Days - Gary Calamar/Phil Gallo

Not an album, but rather a book about the history and social significance of record stores. A good read for anyone who is interested enough to be following this thread.

From Amazon:

In this era of digital downloads, the small, indie record shop might sound like an anachronism. But, in fact, record stores served as community centers, information exchanges, clubs, art galleries, and launching pads for numerous bands and record labels. Record Store Days takes a long, loving look back at the retail refuges that enthralled at least three generations of music lovers, providing a glimpse into the special alchemy that makes a great record store. Written and compiled by two record store veterans, this lively and nostalgic anthology includes photographs and reminiscences from musicians, music industry executives, former record store clerks, and, of course, avid fans.

“There’s nothing as glamorous as a record store.”
– Paul McCartney
