December 16, 2003

Source:  Audience recording > unknown binaural cardoid microphones > unknown battery pack (with minimal bass roll-off) > Sharp minidisc recorder > ? > WAV > Cool Edit Pro > FLAC.  Recorded by Brandon.  Did some volume adjustment and edited out some bits.

CD 1:
01. (intro)

03. (unknown tune, take 1)
04. (unknown tune, take 2)
05. I Want To Be The Boy, take 2

12. Nude as the News, take 2
13. ("Freak out?")
14. (unknown White Stripes tune)
15. Moonshiner

Total time = 34:30

Personnel:
Chan Marshall - vocals & guitar

Notes from the taper:  "Lots of local bands came out in support of Atlanta scene player 315, playing all evening and late into the night.  By the time Chan came out, more than half the crowd had left, and by the time she was finished most of the rest had left.  She started and stopped, tried to get a singalong going on a White Stripes cover, and talked quietly to people at the front of the audience.  It was kind of a disaster.  I've edited out long bits between songs, and towards the end of the show you'll see I kept more crazy bits of stage banter than actual music.  Don't think I've ever shared this complete recording, but now that Chan's in better shape I guess we can look back and laugh, eh?  315 (that is the guy's name) followed Chan, playing bent Christmas carols on solo electric guitar at his own fundraising concert.  Sadly he died a few months later.  One of the more memorable shows out of the hundreds I've seen at the Earl."

Lou's Note: The first time they played as Emmylou Harris & The Hot Band was 1975-04-03, the first night of a 3 night run at the Boarding House.

Sounds like this show was done between releasing her debut "Pieces OF The Sky" and her 2nd album "Elite Hotel", both released in 1975.  She signed with the label in October 1974, so they were quick albums.  The show is from the Friday of Thanksgiving weekend of 1975.

I've used Dodd preamps for years.  I also had a variation of that Dac that Danny uses, but I let it go to Ron Vedder- I couldn't keep it from dropping connection.  I also had a Dodd phono preamp-- a very nice piece, but i had to admit I liked a much cheaper Jolida better.  So it also went to Ron.
The preamps?  I'm sure there's something better, but I haven't heard it.
The other battery powered gear that I use is our own Folsom's  tda7297 chip amp.  I've got a couple of Dodd amps that are excellent, but Jeremy's amp is right there with them for speakers that don't need power.

Notes:
- The Early show recording matches ID-135275/157446, in this case it's the complete show and with improved sound.
- The Late show recording does not match either of the current sources (Moore ID-11282 & Cooper ID-125512/125513).
- Patches from ID-11282; first 0:37 of John Scher intro, first 0:48 Nicky's band intros, and first 0:13 of Melody.
- Patches from ID-125513; last 2:46 of Positively 4th Street, and s2t12 (tuning) through to end of the show.
- Thanks to CBass for assistance with comparative sources; and a big thanks to Jon and Marc for sourcing this old tape!

Here is a video tech talk by Tom Martin of The Absolute Sound and The Audio Belle about the Magnepan 1.7i open architecture speaker project.

The Danville Signal dspNexus 2x8 with the AK4499EX DAC's, the Hollis Audio Labs built pair of 4x8in servo sub arrays used with the modified Magnepan 1.7i's were the system described and shown in the video.

The system without the servo subs will be at AXPONA 2024 in the  Danville Signal room 356 for an AB comparison of passive vs DSP crossovers.  Please stop by for a listen at the show.
