Yup.

Funny thing, listened to it once, hated it and posted same, which started our conversation.

Listened a second time to be sure no major defects before I sent it to you, found side 2 bearable.

Cleaned and steamed then vacumned it before shipping to you, listened a 3rd time to be sure I didn't screw it up with steam, realized I kinda liked side 2, and side 1 was growing on me. But I'd made a committment to you so off it went.

Then saw a clean copy for $5 yesterday so took it.

The very first song still sounds like someone beating a bag of cats with a stick, but who knows what will happen over time.  ](*,)

I love Metheny, but his attempts at traditional/bop/hard bop all fall flat for me.

He created an entirely new genre of music, of which he is the reigning overlord, but I'm afraid he doesn't much care for it much himself.  He makes the music to satisfy his fans and pad his wallet. Still, somehow, when he works in the genre he created, he makes magic.

His obvious true love is hard bop, but it is a lover which he can never possess.  Any of his recordings that attempt it, sound to me either like someone beating a bag of cats with a stick or sleep-inducing muted guitar noodlings.  It's a little sad, really.

Dippin - Hank Mobley: (pricey as a 45rpm AcousTech remaster, but I spent the morning moving my furniture with my ex, and drove to Princeton to complete sale of my Scout, and dammit I deserved something!)

In a little while I'll be heading out to pick up StereoNut and another one of the AudioSyndrome guys for a pilgrimage down to PREX. Hide the women, children and vinyl.

If anybody is in the neighborhood, stop and say hello. I'll be wearing my AN  tee shirt for good luck.  [-o<

There's a few boxed sets that looked interesting, 2 different Stan Kenton collections, 1 at $60 and 1 at $80.

And the Sinatra I wanted was there as a MoFi release, but I didn't want to spend the money.

I saw the Sinatra set too.The price they were asking only worked out to $25 a record which is not that bad of a price but it still adds up to good hunk of change when you figure you have to buy 16 albums at once.
I'm sure glad I got mine when I did.  8)

After watching this thread with intense jealousy, I am glad to announce that I found my own Crack House here in SC.  The thrift store for an animal shelter apparently gets fed with the long standing inventory from one of the local record shops.  They have bins full of CDs and more records than I have in my collection, and everything is 4 for a dollar.

I came away with 40+ CDs and half a dozen LPs for under $20.  highlights include:

CD's:

Allen Toussant- Collection
Holly Cole-Temptation
Jellyfish- Bellybutton
Conferate Fagg- Rock n Roll Hall of Flame
Sam Phillips- Fan Dance
Liz Story- Speechless
Squeeze- Some Fantastic Place
Alison Moyet- Hoodoo
Ross Trout/Steve Rodby- The Duo Life
David Byrne- Uh Oh
Andy Summers- Charming Snakes
Rosanne Cash- The Wheel
Bonnie Raitt- Silver Lining
Toni Childs- House of Hope
                 Union
Marlene Dietrich- Best of
T-Bone Burnett- The Criminal Under My Own Hat
Deanna Carter- The Story of my Life
SmashMouth- Fush Yu Mang
Peter Gabriel- Live in DC

LP's:

Dinah Shore- Dinah, yes indeed
Mahler: Symphonie Nr 1- Boston Symphony - Ozawa
Chopin: Klavierkonzert Nr 3- LA Philharmonic- Giulini
Hancok/Hubbard/Turrentine- In Concert Volume Two
GTR- Gtr (Steve Howe/Steve Hackett)
Bobby Short- Loves Cole Porter
Doris Day- Wonderful Day
BeBop Deluxe- Drastic Plastic
The Jazz Crusaders- Best of
Jim Croce- I Got a Name
Gershwin: Rhapsody in Blue/American in Paris- NY Philharmonic-Bernstein

I didn't even go through everything they had...I got tired.  I'm so happy.

The Modern Jazz Quartet with Laurindo Almeida - Atlantic
Ben Webster/Coleman Hawkins: Tenor Giants - Verve
Kenny Burrell: Generations - Blue Note

Erroll Garner/Art Tatum/Mike Di Napoli: Piano Greats - Guest Star
Sonny Rollins: Don't Ask - Milestone
Buddy Rich: A Different Drummer - RCA
Larry Carlton: On Solid Ground - MCA
Larry Carlton: Alone/But Never Gone - MCA Master Series
Diane Schurr & the Count Basie Orchestra - GRP

Dammit - left work early and drove to the Allentown crack house as he had posted he had gotten in some Porcupine Tree vinyl.

What he didn't post was that they went from $100 to $300.

As Geof Peterson would say - Balls!

Needless to say, no PT for me.

But since I was there............
