14.50???????

Sounds like immigrant math.

Nah, there are plenty of immigrants that know how to count. This was just idiot math.

I was in a store not too long ago and bought something that cost $7 and change. I went to hand the cashier $12 and she refused to take the two single because I was giving her too much money. I tried to explain that if I gave her 12 it would make the change easier because she could give me back a $5 bill and that went right over her head. So I told her to just put $12 cash tendered into the register and it would tell her how much change to give. She then told me that she couldn't do that because there was not a $12 key on her screen. SO not only are we hiring people to work as cashiers who cant do simple math, we are now hiring people who are too dumb to even push the buttons on the register to have the machine do the math for them.

And the person involved spoke clear English without a trace of any foreign accent, so it wasn't a language or recent immigrant thing, just another stellar example of the NYC Public Schools "social promotion" policy.

Sad  :(

As Ron White says you can get face lifts, tummy tucks, liposuction, and boob jobs, but with all they can do, medical science still can't fix stupid.

Along those line, for those who are not already familiar:

The Darwin Awards are given to honor those who do their best to ensure that the next generation is smarter by creatively removing themselves from the gene pool. These heroes sacrifice their very lives to give our children a better future...   :duh

Believe it or not I went to the Crack House this morning to get a haircut (yes, they now have a barber!) Of course while I was waiting my turn I took the time to peruse the vinyl section found a bunch of the Deutsche Grammmophon Beethoven Bicentennial Collection sets. These sets each contain 6 LPs and a booklet about the music contained in that volume. The price for all the box sets on the shelf had just been dropped to 99 cents.

Needless to say I grabbed every one they had.  8-[

I end up getting:

Vol 2 - Symphonies and Overtures Part Two
Vol 5 - Music for the Stage
Vol 6 - Choral Music
Vol 7 - String Quartets
Vol 8 - Music for Piano
Vol 9 - Chamber Music

36 LPs for $5.94 - Another Crack House Score.   8)

WARNING - I have to make a business trip to Harrisburg this week and plan to stop in Allentown on the way home to visit Double Decker Records. Hide the Women, Children and Vinyl!

Bill - PM Sent

I had a good time meeting up with Bill at DDs on Wed. It is always nice when you can squeeze a little fun into a business trip.

On the  way home from DDs I got a call from the inpatient Hospice facility that my wife was staying in while I was out of town. Based on her condition while she was their they were recommending that she have a feeding tube put in and wanted me to come out to the Hospice early Thursday AM to meet with the doctors and set it up. (She had the surgery today and everything went very well.) I just barley had enough time to unpack the car and catch a few hours sleep before I came out to the Hospice where I am staying overnight. (I amd sending this from the Hospice "Cyber Lounge".)

I picked up some nice stuff at DD's, but once again, my posts are backed up. I'll fill you guys in when I get back home and get a few free minutes.

I feel very strange. It is almost 1 AM and I have no music to listen to. (I didn't plan on staying out here so I don't even have an ipod with me.  :( )

I might actually have to go to sleep at an almost human hour.

Sorry I missed you at DDs Tom, good luck at the hospice. Hope your wife feels better post-op.

Curious to see what you grabbed at DDs.

Well, I had to come home from the Hospice to work at the Park tonight and seeing as I hadn't been to the Crack house in over a week I felt morally obligated to make a stop while I was in the neighborhood.

Found a few LPs and a whole bunch of things in the loose CD bags.

LPs
Americana Volume II: Maurice Abravanel/Utah Symphony Orchestra - Turnabout
Beethoven Sonatas for Violin & Piano (Nos. 8 & 3): Itzhak Perlman/Vladimir Ashkenazy - London UK (Dutch Pressing)
Elgar - Cello Concerto/Sea Pictures - Sir Jonh Barbirolli/London Symphony Orchestra, Jacquline Du Pre' & Janet Baker, Cellos - Britsh EMI
Music from Lerner and Loewe's "Camalot": Andre Previn and his Trio - Columbia

CDs
Bob Dylan: Love and Theft
Bob Dylan: Pat Garret & Billy the Kid - Original Soundtrack Recording
Chet Baker: Grey December
Chet Baker Quartet:On the Road-Live in LA & Boston '54
Jimi Hendrix: Experience Hendrix - The Best of Jimi Hendrix
Jerry Garcia Band: After Midnight (3 CD Set)
Van Halen: 1984
Pink Floyd: Atom Heart Mother
Django Reinhardt: Jazz Masters 38 - Verve
The Charles Mingus Duo & Trio: Debut Rarities, Vol. 2
Grofe: Grand Canyon Suite - Howard Hanson/ Eastmans Rochester Orchestra - Mercury Living Presence

I have to head back to the Hospice once my shift is over hear so it will most likely be a while before I get to listen to most of these, but this is what I picked up today.

The Milestones LP I grew up with was split to stereo, with a cool (obnoxious) echo effect added to make it sound like it was recorded outdoors. I need to get another copy of Milestones.
