dedicated transport or cd player.
« on: April 15, 2012, 02:30:55 PM »
I am using a Denon CD player as a transport and Burson 160 dac with M2tech adapter. Question is will there be significant audible improvement if I were to replace the Denon with a true dedicated transport?

The best sound I've heard from digital is from FLAC files stored on HDDs.  Invest in a cheap PC, big HDDs and a killer sound card.  MUCH better than any CD transport.

How does the M2tech adapter work with a CD player? Do you mean with a PC?

I would upgrade the DAC before the transport.

Most modern DAC chips will remove jitter so transport is less important for sound quality. Although at he very top end, high end transports can add that last bit. I don't know why.

Apologies for the confusion. The M2 is when I use my laptop and flac files and yes it does sound a whole lot better than just a cheap usb cable.

Jeez, the Burson is my newest piece that is the last thing I expected to be on the "replace list" :duh

It depends on the transport, if by a dedicated PC music server, I'd say yes. :)

Don't go replacing that DAC just yet...  :D  The Burson 160 is a very nice sounding DAC.

I wont. I think my speakers r my weakest link (B&W DM640) They are better than most people think though, but not upper end audiophile.
