Weird "chill-out" music
« on: October 24, 2015, 04:53:29 PM »
ok, I like the "normal" music everybody else does. I like ZZ Top, and Zeppelin, and Diana Krall, AC/DC, Bach, etc..etc..etc..

But sometimes I get tired of hearing a song I've been hearing on a regular basis for the past few decades. Sometimes I get tired of hearing lyrics and what they're trying to preach to me.

Sometimes I want to "zone out", and have some good tunes in the background. Something with a nice beat. Something with a nice flow. Something with no lyrics to distract me. I like this music when I'm driving. When I'm in the workshop building things.

---- Instructions:
- Don't watch the videos. They can be a distraction from the music.
- Be doing something else while listening. 'Background' music is the key, but don't be shy with the volume knob. Turn it up.

Whatch'all think about these. The genre is far and wide, spanning MANY sub-genres. It's impossible to give a taste with just a couple videos, but here's the best sample I can give without making some huge epic post:

Alex Cortiz - "Afterworld"

The Shanghai Restoration Project - "Jessfield Park"

Idenline - "At Sunset"

Prefuse 73 - "Storm Returns"

Mr FijiWiji - "The Mentalist"

So..."thoughts" on this?
What "weird" music do you listen to that's generally considered out of the ordinary, even by the standards of the average audiophile?

Yea.....That's what I figured.
180 views and one week later, not a single comment, much less somebody else that likes it.
You know it some SERIOUSLY weird music when not even the audiophiles like it.

I still love you guys though.
Bob ;)

Sorry I haven't checked any of the links but when I hear about chill out music I think of the web site Ektoplazm.com.

Hundreds of albums of techno/trance/electronica.

You can sort by style - I like the downtemo stuff much more than the "boots-n-pants-n-boots-n-pants..." stuff.

It has a built-in player so you can play right from the site, or you can download full cd quality (pretty sure) flac or wav files.

Check it out - a great site w/ free tunes to chill to.

Cool Mike, I'll check it out. It doesn't like something with my Adobe or Flash, because I can't preview anything, although it looks like I can d/l everything.
Thank you!

I gave a listen to 2-3 links, but I couldn't get all the way through the song before I got bored and clicked on the next one. I didn't find it boring but I also didn't find it compelling or interesting enough to stick with. Maybe as background music while working?

Mike, I use Google Chrome and have to have Adobe Flash disabled, otherwise Chrome crashes. Once I turned it back on, I get the tunes on their built-in player.
Yea, that site is pretty cool. Fantastic background material.
Thanks!!  :thumb:

Bob, Yes indeed. You certainly won't be playing this at many audio get-togethers, or when friends are over, that's for certain. Background is the exact method of listening. Some folks (the younger crowd) call it "homework music", but like I said in my first post, I like to listen while I'm in the workshop, or while driving. Basically when my brain is on autopilot and music isn't, and shouldn't be, the main attraction.

Wow Mike, yea....that site is awesome. Sooo much good stuff there, although it took me a minute to figure out all the buttons.
That link will definitely be saved.  :thumb:

You said you hadn't got a chance to check out my links, let me know what you think once you have.

A bit of a bump...just checking the pulse here.
Anyone into things like:

Random Rab - "You're not a God"

Little People - "Start Shootin'"

Rockers Hi-Fi - "Free"

....and one of my all time favorite "eyes closed, last song of the night, beverage in hand, lights down" kind of songs.
Please enjoy....

Galactic - "Quiet Please"

Beating a dead horse here, but I thought I'd give it a bump, just to see if there's any new blood into some funky chill tunes.

This is like a chillstep instrumental southern blues reggae funky dubstep thing.

I enjoyed these as well. This is one area of music  I have not thoroughly explored. These sound like some hip-hop/electronica tunes or drum and bass?

I did post a link to Mondo Grosso a while back and nobody replied. http://neocha.com/magazine/labyrinth-by-mondo-grosso/.

And right now I am listening to Perfume's "Fusion". I don't think it fits the demographic here either!

This one didn’t grab me as much....but the girl was cute! It reminded me somehow of when I was
watching the recent Winter Olympics and the story about the Korean K-pop phenomenon.

I hate to say it, but yea... that one didn't grab me either. I definitely wouldn't call it "Chill-out" music.
Catchy, but nothing I'd want to wind down the day and lower the blood pressure levels with.

My friend Jason Brown is truly a man for all seasons.  An astrophysicist during the day, a wonderful husband and father and an amazing multi-instrumentalsi during the rest of the 29 hours in his day.

Check him out:    http://www.stonecanvasmusic.com/index.html

Introspective and new agey, but the man can throw it down when needed.

Also a really, really funny Dude!
