Title: Hagerman Burn-In Generators
Post by: Nick B on February 29, 2020, 08:44:23 PM
I’ve got new power cords coming, then ICs and speaker cables. I’m going to get both Hagerman devices, unless there are any better suggestions. The other device I found is the Audiodharma, but that’s at least $700. Thanks

Hagerman is VG. You will still need to perform process several times and then allow 3 days to settle in.

That would be just fine.

Jim Hagerman has built the 2 burn in devices and will ship them Tuesday. Doing a search tonight, I found this device. It’s about $900

Ya think!

Here is the one I built.  It has a 15W chip amp inside and fixed resistances for each outlet:  90 ohms for USB (with a 2.4V zener limiter); 8 ohms for speaker cables 600 ohms for XLR ; 5K for RCA.  I daisy chain the cables and use shunt plugs on the ends of the target cables.  CD input is on the back.

Agreed on that. It does have a lot of connections, so might be useful for some and for those (like me) who don’t know how to build these devices. I expect the Hagermans to work very well.

Thanks, Charles.  It made sense at the time and only cost about $50.00 to build...

I received the Hagerman’s yesterday with various adapters and a teeny power supply. Seems like good value for the money. Hooked up one of the new, budget friendly power cords I received today. Burn in per the manual is 2-3 days, so I’ll let it cook for 3. Will burn in a couple of the old ICs that I have, even though I may get new ones soon. Apparently I can also use to burn in equipment. My upgraded Border Patrol SE dac
(with new Jupiter caps) should be here Friday.
It should sound a bit better than Tidal and Qobuz on my iPad

So far, I’ve used the Hagermans to burn in one new power cord from the Uber Puerto wall outlet to the UberBUSS, also with Uber Puertos. Also burned in the old digital RCA. Also just received my Border Patrol dac with upgraded Jupiter caps and nos Brimar EZ80 black plate England tube. Lots of variables, but just glad to be playing music again after a month.

Well I jumped in with a used Hagerman Pro break in device. Being a cable nut this will be used mucho. Yes love trying different cables. I find all cables colored in some way. Finding the color you desire is the chase.

I have recently burned in a power cord and two pair of interconnects. The next and final piece will be a digital coax cable in a couple of weeks.
I’ve never used rhodium, but it would be especially useful for that

What's wrong with just sticking the cord on a CD player and letting it run for a few days?

Nothing if one wants to put lots of hours on the laser assembly. Only so many hours.

You know that "other" CD or DVD player that's been sitting in the corner of a closet somewhere gathering dust (and we all have one of those)? Use that one.

I agree with you on there. that is why in the old days I kept a cheap CD player in the garage that was used only got break-in purposes. It didin't sound all too good at all, but it was good enough to use to put a CD on repeat for several days. And if it wore out or broke, oh well.

Nowadays I have gotten a bit more high tech and use my streamer to provide break in signals. If I just need music I make a Tidal playlist and put it on continuous repeat and if I want to use a break in track from one of those dedicated break in/demag discs I simply copy the tracks I want to use to a flash drive and play that on a continuous loop. Either way I am getting music with no moving parts to break or wear out.

An alternative for sure. The Hagerman cost me $150 and can break in caps, components etc. A good deal had. Tom I use my server as well on random mix. The Hagerman offers more options thats all.

Used it for first time. Listened before and after treatment. A big difference. I ran the process three times with 12 hours off in between. I would recommend the Hagerman to anyone.
