I am not sure I understand why this is news. Columbia Records was purchased by Sony in 1988 and has been releasing vinyl (abet on a limited basis) pretty much all along and currently has quite a few titles available in 180g pressings in their Legacy series.
Is the new thing here that the physical production of the current LPs offerings was jobbed out to other pressing plants and Sony has now decided to build its own plant and bring production back in house?

What I hear they're cranking up the Japanese plant which means good pressings on good vinyl instead of a lot of what is ($#*% out there now.
