Shelby Lynne: Just a Little Lovin'

I know, I know, I already have a vinyl copy of this album, but for $1.91 for both a pristine CD and the bonus DVD, how could I say no to this. aa

Brahms, Heifetz, Reiner, Chicago, need I say more?  Great music played by great musicians. The sound quality of the recording itself is first rate, but this is a 70s reissue, not an original Shaded Dog. Unfortunately my mancave looks more like a mini-store warehouse than a listening room as it is being used for turnaround space while we continue to make the house more wheelchair friendly for my wife.   :( Given that  most of my LP listening as of late has been from the living room on the first floor (the mancave is in the basement). It sounds great from the other room, but I can't really make a judgement on how this pressing would hold up under better listening conditions.

BTW, if you don't have a copy of that Shelby Lynne album, put it right at the top of your search list. It is top of the pile in all respects. I have heard a number of her other recordings and they are all only fair, but this on is exceptional. The Cd can be had for fairly cheap on Amazon, but the LP is the real bargin. It is a 180g pressing that has a full list price of only $12.98!

Sergio Salvatore: Tune Up

So I see this CD in the Crack House. A 13 year old kid playing jazz piano. Well, it's on GRP and I have yet to hear them put out a real clunker. And it's only $1.61. . SO I go for it, how bad can it be. Well not bad at all. This kid has some legitimate talent. He was 13 when this CD was made, which would put him in his late 20s now. Has anybody heard anything else that he has put out since then? I checked the library system and the only CD of his that they have is the one that I just bought.  :(

I would like to hear (or at least hear about) some of his later stuff.

I like that album cover above...

I just heard this on the classical radio show Preview, which highlights new releases.

Lang Lang, live concert in Vienna, plays Beethoven's Piano Sonata 23 "Appassionata"

Wow, this guy is the real deal. Some of the best classical piano I have ever heard. Power, confidence, passion, sensitivity, meaning. I'm ordering this one! This concert comes out on Blue Ray video in october too..

Thanks for the tip Rich. The Appassionata is one of my favorite Beethoven pieces. I am going to have to look for this one.  :D

Mr Lockhart was a guest conductor of the NC Symphony 3 years ago, when Kyoko Takezawa performed Bartok Violin Concerto 2, which blew me away. He is extremely talented.
