Mike Garson: The Oxnard Sessions

Another tasty morsel from Keith Johnson and the Folks at Reference Recordings.

Also check out Vol. Two....I think that's even better.... :thumb:

I agree that Vol 2 is the better album, but Vol 1 is no slouch either.

FYI - Most of the cuts from Vol 2 (along with some bonus material) have been reissued by RR under the title "Mike Garson's Jazz Hat". Not surprisingly Jazz Hat has received critical acclaim as well.

Go for all three. Jazz Hat includes a “take no prisoners” improvisation on Gershwin themes that was not part of Vol 2. 8)

Warning!

The music on the new Mike Garson CD on RR (Pied Piper) is a a high Resolution HDCD remastering of the 1985  original analog mater tapes used to make the 45 RPM audiophile LP "Reflections" (RR-18).

So this is a two prong warning. First; if you already have a copy of reflections, be aware that this is the same music, although in a higher quality digital pressing. And secondly, Reflections was a really nice album that has long been out of print, so if you don't own one of the original LP or CD copies, this might be a chance to add this one to your collection.

Thanks for the heads-up. The library showed this in the web based catalog as having already been ordered so I put in a reserve request for it. If it ends up being as good as it sounds in the Amazon description, I'm sure I will end up buying my own copy.

Sting: Symphonicities

Symphonicities; the companion CD to accompany Sting's highly-anticipated world tour, which begans June 2 in Vancouver, featuring the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, conducted by Steven Mercurio (Bocelli, Pavarotti). The new studio album, comprised of Sting's most celebrated songs re-imagined for symphonic arrangement, serves as the ultimate commemoration of the live concert experience. Created exclusively for the tour and correlating album, Sting's greatest hits have been reinterpreted with brand new orchestrations arranged by Jorge Calandrelli, David Hartley, Michel Legrand, Rob Mathes, Vince Mendoza, Steven Mercurio, Bill Ross, Robert Sadin, and Nicola Tescari.

And with the exception of the Gold PopeMusic disc which I have had for years everything less was something that I picked up over the last few days at the Crack House for less than $2 a disc! Finds like that make for a happy Tom,  :D
