Title: March Meeting Notice
Post by: RussL on February 21, 2018, 07:29:24 AM
The March 2018 meeting will be held at the Woodhaven, Queens home of Ernest Naples.  Ernie will be demonstrating PS AUDIO’S DirectStream DAC in his primary system consisting of:

Samsung SSD Laptop with Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit Operating System, Foobar 2000 Music Player
Solid State Storage – Ten SSDs @ 256 GB each = 2.56 TB Total
M2Tech hiFace EVO TWO USB to S/PDIF converter
MSB Analog DAC REPLACED BY PS AUDIO’S DirectStream DAC for this meeting.
Linkwitz Labs Orion Analog Signal Processor & Crossover
Two ATI 1807 Amplifiers – 14 total modular amplifiers, each delivering 270 watts into 4 ohms
Linkwitz Labs ORION 3.4 open baffle loudspeakers with all SEAS 4 ohm drivers, (2T, 1MR, 2W per speaker)
Peerless “THORette” supplemental woofers (2W) in sealed enclosures

We’ll be treated to a brief video prepared by PS Audio regarding the Direct Stream DAC.  From the PS Audio website: The ideal DAC should work entirely in the DSD domain.  The DirectStream DAC uncovers the missing information hidden in your digital audio media.  The DAC’s sonic characteristic is its ability to capture a sense of space.   Performances already in well-defined sound stages have those sound stages more precisely defined.

The DirectStream DAC also captures more information about the physical process of playing music.  The DAC captures harmonic details, which make instruments and voices sound more realistic, and accurately proportioned.  The DAC also captures and presents the impact of dynamic contrasts and puts all the musical information into context.   All the detail, harmonics, dynamics, and space relate to each other, making the presentation more like a live musical performance.

Doors open at 7:30 pm. with the formal meeting starting around 8:00 pm.

Hi,

I am budging in, to ask if you'll allow me to attend, as my regular gang, the AudioNervosa group, has been sliding down further down the hill into the valley, so to speak, so here and there I'd like to somehow meet other old and new friends to learn about new hi-fi/audio things through other channels.  I had been asking Sir Charles to give me a passport to come , but he's been just very busy with his own stuff.... so I haven't been able to attend any of your recent meetings.  So, I'm thinking/hoping again, if I can come around this time.  I heard the Orions loooong ago, so am hoping to re-visit with its sound.... :thumb:

But... what "date" will it be?

Thanks.

Shek,
Sorry your old east coast gang has been sliding into the valley....so to speak. I was reading some Audio Syndrome NY posts back in 2013 and seeing pics of the guys at a topround rave. Lots of happy faces. I hate to exclude anybody from our friendly forum here and I hope he’s found a home elsewhere and that those guys are still able to have raves.
