I could pump gasoline through the PW?
The surbuf pads arrived, they look good, feel stiffer than velour. I'll try them out asap.
Cleaning solutions I want to try
everclear + folex (on the rocks)
baking soda slurry paste to rub into the grooves with a soft rubber roller with a vinegar rinse
bleach + soap
Oh, the horror! Vinyl worshippers look away!! I will desecrate the holy of holies where the evil mold colonies lie in hiding, the villagers too afraid to attack the evil warlocks because they occupy sacred ground.
All of these chems are safe for PVC, despite the rampant fear mongering that keeps disc doctor in business. Knowledge dissipates fear. Nitty gritty once sold a cleaning solution called Nitty Gritty "First." It was discontinued due to dangerous chemicals - dangerous to the user, that is, not to the records.
Griot Garage sells a variable speed 3" orbital polisher. Surbuf makes 3" pads. See where this is headed? I'm sure it would put microscratches on the flats, removing the shine. Oh, the horror! But it wouldn't affect the sound because stylus only lives down in the groove not on the shiny flats between the grooves. The aim is to get the fibers down into the groove with 3000rpm vibration. Wouldn't it be funny if this cleaned out the grooves, but took away the shine of the flats? The record would look like a chalkboard but play nice. I'm waiting to find out what the orbital diameter is. It has to be about half the length of the fibers in order to clean down inside the groove. I think it will be too big of an orbit for LP cleaning. I need like 1mm movement. Maybe a vibrator will work.
Oh the horror! Would you use a Hitachi Magic Wand vibrator on your LPs? Hang it up on the turntable rack for all to see. hahaha
