What is that shit called? Thrash? Death?

Being a bit of a metal head, most folks will call it Death metal simply due to the fact that the singer (if you can call them that) is growling, screaming or whatever the hell you want to call it.

You have to keep in mind however that there are a lot of singers out there who growl but can actually sing if they want to (Think Slipknot as one main stream example). When they growl, they sound like a Death or Thrash metal band but when they sing, it's anything but.

If you want to hear some current examples of bands that are true death metal, check out:

Decapitated
Opeth
Avulsed
Anata
Obituary

I can give you a lot more but those are decent examples.

Thrash to me is something entirely different and is night and day from death metal. To a lot of people thrash metal is bands like Slayer, VoiVod and yes even Metallica. I honestly don't think that those bands fall into the thrash category. Thrash to me is more along the lines of bands like Overkill, Sepultura etc but it's debatable.

I prefer what has become known as melodic rock and melodic metal as it offers up the best that Rock and Heavy Metal have to offer. Bands that I would classify as melodic rock or melodic metal bands are:

Crystal Ball - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2FRUqmB-CQ

Evidence One - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qoX4rLMLyPk

Voodoo Circle - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9x5aBNtRSg

Europe is where it's at right now when it comes to good Rock and Metal. There is some decent stuff coming out of North America but the folks across the pond are doing it better.

If you want to hear some great examples of some straight ahead rock bands, check out:

Gotthard - (If I could sing, I would like to sing like this dude!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ORGm6ySSFY&feature=related

Pink Cream 69 - (They have been around forever and are an absolutely fantastic group...that nobody has heard of which is a shame) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcwC8k5MOA4

Kotipelto - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6UITOwSOmo

Thunderstone - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UpBlT0O_MmE

Edguy - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJGItAC09sI&feature=related

I can list 100's more.....

System consists of an amp a preamp, 2 speakers a turntable and a phono preamp, Also some cables and power cords and a really cheap cd player.

This one falls under the Death Metal wanna be category......and even worse, is not much more than a rip-off of stuff that was done a longtime ago by guys who actually know how to play.

As matter of course, I have chosen to not make fun of, nor disregard the music choices of other people. As we all know, music does something for us that nothing else can. That is why we're here. But when it comes to the music described in the first post...what special kind of Hell welcomes a disturbed piece of human(ish) flesh such as yourself?

Where's my Diana Krall CD?

I am just remembering back to when I was 17, what I was thinking and what I wanted to do. No it was not death metal, but I bet a few 40 somethings were looking at me thinking similar thoughts, like  :wtf:
