Well, good news and bad news at the Crack House today. They changed their pricing policy and now all LPs and CDs are $1.41. While this is bad from the point of view of the LPs, which used to be 69 cents, the CDs were $1.91 and $2.42 before the change so how the price change effects you on any given day will depend on what mix of media you find.
And while I was a bit bummed out for a while that disappointment soon disappeared when I went through the rack and pulled out 5 mint Mercury Golden Import LPs. While many folks think that these are now up to the sonic standards set by the original releases, they are still damn good music with much better than average SQ. And even at the new $1.41 price , they were a steal.
I grabbed the following:
1) Wagner for Band - Fennell/Eastman Wind Ensemble **
2) Grainger: Licolnshire Posy- Fennell/Eastman Wind Ensemble **
3) Grainger: Country Gardens - Fennell/Eastman -Rochester Pops Orchestra **
4) Sousa: Sound Off - Fennell/Eastman Wind Ensemble
5) Respighi: Feste Romane/Church Windows - Dorati/Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra
** - These recordings are on the TAS Superdisc list, although not in this pressing
I also picked up A few other misc albums:
6) Pete Fountain - Stick Man
7) Aurthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops play the Carpenters Songbook (On Polydor)
A two disc set of Suites from Victory at Sea (1970 RCA Red Seal reissue, not the original Shaded Dog)
This last set is interesting in that the two LPs contain all the music from the originally issued 3 LPs. The LP that contains sides 1 & 4 is a 4s/4s pressing and looks like it is a standard vinyl weight while the LP with sides 2 & 3 is a 2s/7s pressing on very flimsy vinyl reminiscent of the Dynaflex pressings.
