Here is one I debated to list, but not because of the voice. It is because many don't like opera, which I don't either.
However, this particular selection I happened to run across has a soprano voice so pleasing, it is almost like butter. I think it may be the most pure soprano voice I have ever heard.

Let me know what you think.

Steve,
She has a beautiful voice, indeed and I always enjoy hearing Andrea Bocelli.  I had not heard of this Russian opera star.
I’ve never attended an opera and I wonder if we have some opera aficionados on this site.
Nick

I have never heard of her either Nick. And of course Andrea has one of those voices as smooth as silk. Andrea and Sara sound so
good together, and now Aida, wow.

Here is an orchestra piece that is recorded really well. Dynamics, open, wide/deep soundstage, violin inner detail is wonderful.
Good to check out one's entire frequency range. If your system has a flaw, it will probably show up with this selection.

If it were not for YouTube, we would not be enjoying the amazing talent in their formative stages.

I received an email a few days ago, of an amazing 17 year old drummer with drum teacher reaction.
Cam video of both feet as well as both hands, the instructor informs us of how difficult this is to play
4 different rhythms.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3F6XgjmhRY

Here is the actual recording. Dynamics in spades, just a very well recorded piece.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jDVZPzfS1c

As a side, notice how calm she is playing.
This should absolutely one reference recording to check out your system, now and in the future as you upgrade.

Ho-hum... just another day at the office 😀 Quite calm, indeed, and yet amazingly difficult and accurate. I’m going to search for the other drummers mentioned. Thanks, Steve  :thumb:

So how do you guys listen to YouTube on your Hi-Fi systems?
I have a Roku plugged into my HT Pre-Pro that I get YouTube on, but nothing plugged directly into my 2-Channel pre-amp.
Also, I don't have any way of using these links directly, as there is no browser that works on Roku for me to look at AN on the Hi-Fi. I'd have to look at them on the PC, then go into Youtube on the Roku and look at my history there, to pull them up again.

Barry,
I haven’t tried playing YouTube that way. Really like  to keep things simple. My rig  is 2 channel only, no HT etc. If I’m interested in an artist after seeing a YouTube video, then I do a search thru Roon to see if the artist is on Tidal or Qobuz.

Thanks Nick, I just figured with all these YouTube links, and their audio descriptions of "great sound stage" etc. that that's what people were listening to, not the Tidal equivalent. I'm even more simple than you, I don't do streaming on my 2 channel, just vinyl and CD ;)

I try to find the best recordings for individuals to test their systems, use the highest settings for best audio, and as a side, like and save the music presented.

I suppose one over riding factor is I cannot purchase all these selections, nor ask the public to purchase the same. I am hoping that they will save some selections in their favorites. If they like a few, they can purchase the CD or higher resolution. Always looking for a beautiful selection.

---------

Barry, I run YouTube from my computer digital output thru a Supra 2.0, the best usb cable I have heard and reasonably priced, to my heavily upgraded Modi 2, to my 11A reference line preamp and my 25PPT 2 stage all triode monoblock amps to my test speakers. I run the YouTube at the highest resolution possible for each selection. I also use redbook with my limited selections.

For general consumption.

Many think the venue/room and speakers are the weakest part of the system. One does have to minimize
room modes for sure.

However, what many newbies don't understand is that one must pay as much attention to the electronic components as the speakers. The reason is that speaker/room modes are often less than 1/3 octave bandwidth. According to Rane, such deviations are not noticeable. I think the exception is in the bass region. However,
those resonances are usually many db. Dips are usually more tolerated than peaks as peaks mask inner
detail, limit dynamics, attack times etc.

With the electronics, even the slightest deviation covers many octaves, so many harmonics are involved.
+/- 0,1db 20hz to 20khz may sound impressive, but it is basically a worthless spec. The deviation is only
around a poor -54db.

RCA Radiotron Designers Handbook, 1960, 26 engineers, relates that as the number harmonic increases,
the more weight is assigned, the more perceivable. By that it takes less 3rd harmonic to be perceived
than 2nd, 4th than 3rd, 5th than 4th...... 12th less than 11th etc etc. In music we have many many
harmonics. Radiotron lists up to 25th under dissonant harmonics.

With that in mind, Olsen found that for a 2A3 triode stage, acceptible 2nd harmonic is -30db or 3.16%,
for 3rd -50db or 0,3%, 4th is -70db or 0,03%, and 5th is less than 0.01% with no db figure given.
Imagine all the harmonics in music being manipulated. With cymbals, 40% of the energy is above 20khz, and measured to 100khz. However, ~60% of the energy is in harmonics up to 20khz, with many many harmonics.

I found it amazing how sensitive the ear is to frequency response (fr) deviations (among other abnormalities). Just the slightest hair too full and sound stage, rise time/attacks etc are diminished. Slightly too thin and
"washed out"/thin. It is amazingly touchy.

To give you an idea of the sensitivity of the ear, an audiophile friend Dan has been working with me
~ once every 2 weeks for some 5 years to get the speakers right (I started over 7 years ago). We have correlated at least 5 types of adjustments.

1. Less than a millionth of an ohm change with two speaker crossover controls is perceivable.
2. Rotating the speakers by 0,5mm (marking) is perceivable.
3. Instead of running 2 sets of ten 18 gauge wires in parallel to the speakers jacks, running 10 on one leg and
9 made an easily perceptible difference.
4. Bypassing a 100uf poly crossover capacitor with 75pf was perceivable in the highs.

I could probably add more to the mix but this is a lot to digest.

Cheers

steve

Does this help Nick?

It pleases me so much to see this young group do such a wonderful job playing this piece.

Cheers and great week.

Hi Steve,
The orchestra isn’t on either Tidal or Qobuz, so I just enjoyed the YouTube performances. Thanks for posting.
Nick

Your welcome Nick. That is why I stuck with YT premium. So many more selections and the quality is good enough to obtain
really great sound, although I would like to see YT go high rez.

Here is one you might like, pure percussion.

Steve,
Can you advise a specific description of this. I’d like to find it on Tidal or Qobuz.
Thanks,
Nick

Hi Nick,

I believe the same orchestra also performed this selection. Although not conclusive, the same conductor and same
light brown/reddish hair clarinet player.

Hi Steve,
Normally, a percussion solo wouldn’t interest me very much. But this guy was amazing. Control, dynamics and the sound was amazing. I found a couple of other YouTube Videos by Morten Lund and watched them as well. Thanks for the treat.
