A Cray desktop???? I looked at the specs - 24 core Xeon processor cluster, 4 TB  of hard drivce space and 24 GB of RAM. Dam, my pants are getting shorter just thinking about this.  :thumb:

It would be funny if it weighed 300 pounds, like the chunk of solid steel it pretends to be.

The badboy version only costs $55,000,this is less than a lot of highend loudspeakers and must be considered a HUGH bargain in the cost verses performance ratio category. I would pay $1500, if I had it, for the case just for the COOLNESS factor.
The CRAY-1 supercomputer used between 1977 and 1983 at National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colorado recently went on display in the Beyond The Limits exhibition at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in DC. It is very cool to stand 2ft. away from a piece technological history, the internal wiring loom is unbelievable,66 miles of wire with no piece over 2ft. long.

There are some interesting Harvard Bus School cases out there about the internal company strife at Cray in the late 70s, early 80s. It seems they were struggling with design problems with the next generation of super computers and had issues with such things as increasing the processor speed vs using clusters of slower processors and peripherals that couldn't keep up with the new processor speeds. Seems like the more things change, the more they remain the same.

Well... call me crazy... but I finally pulled the trigger. Hopefully, the rebate comes through.

$130 AR isn't too bad... although you still have to get a mounting bracket.

FWIW... OCZ/Newegg has had this deal a couple of times over the past month or so... If I see something like this again, I'll pass along in case someone else wants to play w/the technology.

A little off topic, but newegg has the 150GB velociraptor for 139...

No clue if that's a good deal or not.
