Title: sleepy heads!
Post by: shep on February 12, 2007, 04:37:40 AM
Just felt like posting this. I never fail to be amazed at the helpfullness and patience of fellow Nervosa's (new word) and the internet in general. How in the world did we manage before??? Anyway, I've wanted to take my Marantz cdp to another level since I bought it. Some of the alternatives are too expensive but upping the opamps was a next, affordable step. The only trouble being the shop that did my amp stopped offering his rather pricey offering on this upgrade, pending another opa. There are endless pages devoted to my Marantz on diyforum. In their ads section I found a member selling exactly what I wanted. After driving him nuts with dumb questions, I clinched a great deal. Now I have to go to the bank and get some dosh for him. My modded marantz is already very good but this should take it to another place: replacing 2134 with 627. Can't wait!
On another subject, while I have your undivided attention  How can I back out of an ebay bidding? I am apparently the only one in line for a passive pre. It's a fabulous pre. and very cheap. The problem is the back plate doesn't correspond to the unit, it's from a phono stage. I have corresponded with the seller who seems either ignorant or mystified (or both). I don't think he's in bad faith but he has suddenly stopped answering me. Either the unit is ok, but has a strange history which he doesn't know, or he's hoping I get stuck with whatever it is. I'd like not to get burned on this. Any thoughts?

Problem solved. I've been out-bid.

Nice!  I think you could back out if you could identify just by the pictures that the listing was misrepresented.  I would have e-mailed administration at Ebay and explained.  I'd guess they'd let you off the hook.  For that matter, an honest seller would too.

Nice detective work!

And, congrats on the 'new' CDP.  Let us know how it goes.
