Alright Guys, I think it's time to have a good old Rave like the old days!
People from NY Audio Syndrome are welcome to come.
We'll listen to some vinyl first, then compare my PS Audio DirectStream DAC and Memory transport to Aqua Hi-Fi Dac's and transport supplied by Charles (Rollo). Thanks Charles! The Aqua gear suppose to be top-notch!
My set-up is pretty good at revealing small differences in equipment.
You can see my set-up on Audiogon under snopro.
Food will be provided, if you want you can bring desserts and libations.
Please let me know who will be coming, so I have enough food.
If you don't mind please take off your shoes, you can bring slippers if you want.
Should be a fun GTG,
Joe

Pencil me IN ! :thumb:
WOW, I almost missed this one, Joe, all because of Levi's posting, bragging over his $25K bike :duh. It's because we're not so active here anymore, and Levi's posting hides your posting. So, I was wondering, he kept talking about your good food.... and I wondered what the heck he was taking about, what I missed...., and I went into our MAIN page.... and found out about this one.
SXXXT! May 20! We will be having a farewell party. in Massapequa, for a friend who's moving to San Fran also. Damn!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sigh!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't come, not the way these 2 places are separated. Also, I promised to drive a friend to that party also.....
Have fun, guys!!!!!!!!! :thumb:
Levi, let me ride on your $25K limo next time to a rave?

Hi Joe, thanks for doing this!
I'd love to attend, I always enjoy your systems, but it depends on the weather and how far along I get with pulling the motor from my car. If it's raining, or the motor is already out, I'll be there for sure. If it's okay, I'll give you a firm commitment a little later in the week.
Best, Barry
-
No problem Barry, I hope you can make it! I moved, I'm right over the outerbridge. Very easy to get to from NJ.
I'll pm my address, if you are coming.
Joe
-
Hey Joe,
Thanks for the invite... Please PM me your address...
I plan on attending but I need to participate in a "Best Buddies" walk that morning. My youngest daughter is the local president of the "Best Buddies" chapter so I need to support her & others...
Cheers,
Pete

Here os another pole we should have
How many times has Barry pulled the motor on his car ?
-
Joe as you know I probably will not make it
-
i think thats how he changes the oil on the motor :thumb:
instead of bending down to reach for that oil drain plug, just lift the motor, no bending
makes for an easy oil change
-
Joe,
Would love to attend but going up to Massachusetts for a friend's wedding. Please let me know the next time you have a gathering. Your system is always worth a listen and the food
Paul
-
Next time, Paul. Enjoy your friends wedding!
Joe

Hey Joe will be there. Aqua Formula DAC with Vida transport. Joe do you have two of the same digital cables and IC's to compare DAC's. I use TWL IC's. Can use SPDIF however the I2S connection is a added benefit of using the Aqua DAC.
charles
-
Joe,
I will be attending.
-
Hi Charles,
We can use my HFC Ultimate ic's to keep it the same, but bring Pete's we can try them later.
If you can bring a digi-buss and 2 of Pete's digital PC's that would be great. I have a extra 7+ to plug the digi-buss into my Purepower conditioner. This will keep all cables the same, except the digital cable.
What type of cable do you use for I2S. I have an extra WireWorld HDMI that I use as the IS2 between my DAC and Transport.
Deepak, got you. Anybody else coming! Please let me know, so I can order enough food!

The Aqua I2S is a custom design made for them by Supra. As long as the extra IC's are broken-in no issue. Will bring Digibuss as well as two Digital Americans. I will use the Digital Americans as stock cords since we include one with a purchase of any Aqua or Innuos gear. May bring a guest/assistant along.
charles
-
No problem Charles. The ic's will come off the phonostage.
Emil, if you want to bring your Dac also bring a digital cable to use with it.
-
Hey Charles,
If you have any lemoncello laying around bring that too.😉
-
Hi Guys,
After a talk with Charles, anybody who wanted to bring gear please don't let's just enjoy and listen to Charles equipment. This way there isn't to much distractions.
Sorry,
Joe
-
and for those who do want to hear different gear..wait for magic hour..usually the last event of the night when most people go home...that is when the fun starts...all the stops pulled out and anything goes.
at least it used to be that way......
and it was magic hour because that was when they really got the system singing.
remember when those Arion amps just HAD to be involved at every rave???
I can see why the person showcasing a certain piece of gear would not want any other gear to be showcased/...just funny in this case
cmon bring the lamp...bring the supercock dac lets see where they stand, the vendor did not pay for this event to be his own event..its a damn RAVE, when did we all get so PC! competition is good :thumb:
just sayin.....
-
Sorry Joe, I can't make it. I do hope everyone has a great time, and I hope to get to hear your system again sometime soon.
Best, Barry
-
Mike,
To be fair a few other people wanted to bring their stuff and I really don't want to be swapping gear
out all day.
The big question is, are you coming! LOL
Joe
-
No sorry
spending the weekend with wife at the shore
have a great day
should b fun
-
I want to thank everybody who came, it was a fun day! I want to also thank Charles for bringing over the Aqua Dac and transport it was a real ear opener, I was really impressed.
It sounded very open and dynamic, but also had beautiful tone and timbre.
Very nice indeed! Top tier digital that's for sure.
Joe

How many were there, Joe? Picture? C'mon. You guys should be showing off your Smartphone pictures? :duh

Sorry, Shek. We were just having too much of a good time
Joe has a real sweet system in a beautiful dedicated room.
The PS Audio and Aqua Hifi digital sure had the vinyl aficionados attention for sure.
Long live Redbook!
-
I do have a couple of pics on my cell phone. I just need to figure out how to post them here
-
Thanks, Joe, for being a wonderful host, as usual!
Your system sounded great... a very relaxing, enjoyable sound...
The difference in DAC's was interesting as well! A very fun day (despite the traffic!)! :thumb:
Thanks again,
Pete
-
Thanks for hosting Joe, it was good seeing those who came. It's been a long time. Your system sounded great, as usual and Charlie's DAC was surprising. It started off a bit strident, but then it changed completely to a warmer, dynamic, open and detailed sound that was truly enjoyable. Who says warm-up isn't real?
And thanks Emil for driving (2 1/2 hours there and 1 1/2 hours home) in the wonderful traffic on the Belt Pkwy. What in the world would it look like if LI had to ever be evacuated?

You can always use a boat
-
That's the plan.
1) grab the guns
2) get the money
3) get the food
4) commandeer a boat
5) float away from the zombies

Nah. Just toss it.
Thanks
-
Joe thanks for hosting. Company, food and system first class. The sound of the Aqua Formula DAC and Vida transport once warmed up was a pure joy to hear with your SET based system.
Later in the day when the crowd was gone when we did some serious listening the tonality and harmonics were just staggering. We clearly discerned the Sax's mouthpiece and the harmonic of the bell so naturally. Joe Banamasso acoustic guitar swelled with harmonic overtones. Ella's voice was magical and Louie's sibilant vocals through his teeth were spot on. Zero stringent sound here, just a natural tonality so non digital it was scary. Body, weight ,drive with bass and tempo for the ages.
Got to tell ya was a bit nervous knowing that digital gear in general once dis connected needs a day or two to come back 100%.
However after a couple of hours and especially at night the sound was just marvelous. Yes break-in and warm up are real issues.
TBA a day with AQUA and INNUOS music server and GTA 3R custom speakers at my home.

My pleasure, Bob
You guys made the 150 minute ride feel more like 149 minutes.
The drive was fun. Listening to Andy's PHd goobledegook, 26 year olds with big boobs, what we would do if were single again ( God forbid of course), the rush of HOVing, racing Wes on the Staten island Expressway, sex robots that can cook, should I buy an Alfa Romeo.....
I figure I used a whole gallon of gas with my Prius so each one of you need to paypal me 66 cents friends and family.
Look for a Rave from me next month.
Thanks again, Joe. Felt like a Rave of old with 3 full pages of bullshitting here on AN

YES ! Buy an Alfa then La Scala. Then you could make the Marsala, La Scala Alfa road trip.

I can't see the pictures as well.

Emil, thanks. I was beating myself up for not being able to go because of a friend's imminent move to San Fran, and we were getting together for a departure gettogether....
With people incessantly poking their noses and fingers on their iPhones these days (and not getting hit on the street too :duh!), I thought you guys would take pictures easy. Too much fun is an excusable reason.
Until next time :thumb:.

Great video! Quite a treat to see that. How's it coming with the safari pics?? You were going to post some, right?
Nick
-
Hey Nick,
I haven't posted multiple pictures a long time, so I'm not up to what site I'd be able to do it for posting multiples. Any suggestion? I was told long time ago Picasso, but just heard that Picasso is no longer available? I can post them here, but I'd have to really down-size them, say some of them I have them as 20 MB size. I will have to re-size them.... I suppose if nobody objects (Charles didn't, right? He's the boss?.....), for convenience sake. May be I can just do a dozen or so....? :duh Animals vs Audio Gear? They're just as fun..... :duh
-
OK, I'm risking the wrath of Charles , here go several pictures of my Safari trip. They've been significantly downsized because of house rules I guess. I'm making several entries to play around the rule i guess :duh. I'll try to make some annotations; will see when I figure it out. Here goes:
#1 is a lioness strolling around, looking for a kill/hunt.
#2 is a zebra trying to cross the "street", ignoring the heavy auto traffic.
#2 are some sculpted animals marching in front of our lodge area.
-
#4 is a lizard, beautiful, found basking in the sun around a rest area.
#5 is a Masai woman selling handicrafts, at a Masai village. We earlier had discussions with various groups. My group
were all guys, talking about male business in the Masai commune; we even covered male contagious diseases, etc.
with the Masai guys.
#6 a beautiful bird, Starling, that caught my eye when I was strolling to see Mt. Kilimanjaro at a lookout station.
-
#7 Twin elephants at a drinking spot. Oh, Serengeti National Park.
#9 A hunting lioness (the males are chauvinistic, they don't do much except having sex to make babies with the
females). This gal circled around like a dozen of Toyota Land Cruisers (we're all "hanging" there to watch her
stalking a gazelle. She's like 10 ft. away in this picture.
#10 A giraffe drinking by the river. Giraffes are tall animals, imagine how they'd post to drink? Spread the legs wide,
and significantly lower the neck to reach the water. Also, I called this shot "my" hanging tale picture. "Hanging Tale" is
the calling name for a leopard, which typically peches above ground, in a tree, with its tail hanging. I don't have a good hanging tale picture for show.... :duh  :thumb:
Oh, I didn't number 8.
-
#11 A beautiful bird, name I forgot.
#12 At the Tarangire National Park (Tanzania), we were at this rest stoop by the Tarangire River? Who says Africa is a
barren land. Judge it by the picture here.
#13 A baobab tree. Guess how long these trees live? You don't see many leaves (dryness). They can last a 1000
years, would you believe? The tree shown here was taken at the Masai village we visited. The image posted here
is small, so you may not spot the jewelry they're selling being hung on the tree for show.
-
Last one, #14, taken from the balcony of my "tent". I was tempted to think I was in Tuscany. :yay2:
Ah, found #8, a little girl. Kids we encountered were super nice. They'd always run along side when we pass, waiving at us all the time.
:D :p
-
One last one, I reduced it less so it can be shown (larger) how beautiful the area is. This is the Ngnorongoro Crater. The perimeter (rim) of the crater is like 260 km, how many miles is it? About 160 miles? WOW! When we were there, the crater was covered with white clouds/haze. Fantastic. :thumb:
-
Thanks for posting! It's a side of Africa I rarely see
-
Absolutely amazing photos.
It must have been a real bucket list adventure.
-
Well, sort of bucket list kind of a trip. This was Kenya and Tanzania only. A friend of mine wanted to see Africa. I initially said I've been to South Africa, done that.... But, last time, I didn't see a lion, 1 of the Big 5 of Africa, so to speak. So, I agreed to go, lion sighting being my bucket list item. This time we saw many, many lions. Well, I got way more than that. Totally satisfying fantastic trip.
Incidentally, a dumb question, see if anyone can explain. I tried to double-click to open any of the pictures I posted here, but got nowhere. I thought in the past I just double-click to view a bigger image..... but, what happened there that I didn't do right? The little icons posted as such are too small. How does one see the uploaded image in the size as uploaded?
Oh, mystery solved. Right-click on image and open in another tab..... :duh
-
Awesome pictures Shek!!
Single left click to enlarge a thumbnail. Single left click again to restore it to thumbnail size. If you're a Mac, then no worries, cuz "it just works." ;) It usually takes a second to download the picture, so if you double click within that downloading period you are enlarging and reshrinking it again before it ever opens, so you see no change. Single click will do ya
As for the picture size, seriously guys, 500 kilobytes is more than enough for you to get your message across in a picture. The jpeg I attached below is only 136 kilobytes, it's crystal clear and it doesn't even fit on the page.
If you shoot uncompressed files on a modern camera or phone, then you MUST process them for the web. Some hosts will process them for you, but we don't have that feature, we don't even have a photo gallery, so you have to do it yourself.
-
Thanks, Rich. As I said in the last posting, I'd just "left" 1-click, and it'd open up. I just didn't know, or haven't touched pictures posted here that often.... How big it will show up onscreen also depends on the pixel count also, I thought. The pictures I posted I slashed them down to like 300 KB mostly. :thumb:
-
That's right Shek, only the pixels determine how big the picture will look on screen. Most screens are 1000 pixels wide, and forum software allows about 70% of the screen width for post content, so a 700 pixel picture width is about the limit for most people to see your whole picture on screen without horizontal scrolling. I try to keep my pictures under 600 pixels wide.
Your pictures are really great. I'm so happy that you shared them with us!
Rich
-
Oh, Nick, and anyone interested in laboring through more of my recent Africa trip pictures, I have posted additional ones on Photobucket. Anyone interested, PM and I will e-vite. :D
