11. Uncle Bob's Psychedelic Aspirin [1992 Darkstar Dan & Debbie Gilster - City College - SF]
12. David Gans Radio Promo [1997 KPFA - Berkeley]

March - 2023:

About 20 years ago in 2003, I worked a little bit with Harry Popick, along regularly with Betty Cantor-Jackson at Glide Memorial Church in SF. [www.glide.org]

Betty and Harry both worked for the Grateful Dead in their careers. He as their monitor engineer from 1976-1995 and Betty as recording engineer and producer since 1968. Harry was also the sound engineer for the Jerry Garcia Band circa 1976 - 1986.

With Betty’s blessings, Harry one day gave me a couple of shoeboxes of Jerry Garcia Band soundboard masters, circa 1984-1986. Per her request, I held on to these or played copies as a dj for a weekly Grateful Dead Night at a place called "Nickie's" at 460 Lower Haight St in SF. But that was about it.

Recently while dusting a shelf, I noticed an old DAT of one these Jerry Garcia Band shows and I thought it's silly they’re still not in circulation.

Attached is a picture of Betty retrieving what I had left of those tapes as to store in her care[Early 2022]. The other is Harry at work on monitor sound.

Of the tapes, the ones from this box I transferred 24 bit via Nakamichi DR1 to Sound Devices MixPre6. The ones I did 20 years ago and then gave back to Betty, are 16-bit on DAT. Betty tends NOT to give back things she takes away so that is that.

I hope you enjoy! Cheers.

13] Jammin//                   [4:27]

Notes:
Bob Marley & The Wailers closing night at the Apollo, an amazing run of seven
shows in four days.  The whole night accompanied by a fantastic horn section,
the band performs a unique show that's one of their best.  Several tremendous
moments await.  Undoubtedly, the Carly bassline and the fine horns, the rhythms
will take you on good travels.

Flaws:
Some hiss and buzz, probably from a cassette generation.  There's also a
bit of distortion due to the analog generational losses. 11 hits on Etree,
10 on Phishook, none lossless, only cd-da.  This is a secure EAC extraction
with logs included.  The source is indefinite, but is free of lossy compression
or noise reduction.  The buzz/hiss could potentially be remastered to a much
lower volume, as there are two extended periods of only noise between songs,
nearly 10s without applause.  Okay.  Feel Bob's spirit.  Lord I thank you.

t1   2:43  loud feedback in Positive Vibration... watch your volume.
t3   1:00  Subsecond cut in Heathen - two short static pulses.
t3   1:58  Static hiccup during Heathen guitar solo.
t7   -:--  The end of Crazy Baldhead is cut.
t8   3:57  Double clicks in Zimbabwe.
t8   -:--  At the very end of Zimbabwe, there's a source splice between songs.
t9   -:--  War is in mono, most likely a mixing issue.
t10  -:--  No More Trouble is also in mono.
t10  -:--  Exodous slowly returns to stereo at about midway.
t12  2:04  Double click in No Woman.
t12  3:11  Double click in No Woman.
t12  3:41  Double click in No Woman.
t12  4:15  Double click in No Woman guitar solo.
t12  4:35  Double click in No Woman guitar solo.
t12  -:--  Very short, subtle drop out between songs, 0.013s.
t13  2:06  Double click in Jammin.
t13  2:49  Double click in Jammin.
t13  3:35  Double click in Jammin.
t13  4:15  Double click in Jammin.
t13  -:--  Jammin fades out to a cut.

-d2t02 3:28 splice?
-d2t03 0:00 splice?
-Tape Flips
    d1t08 4:36 (45:26)
    d2t04 5:40 (45:27)
-Vocals a bit muffled in L channel
-Though the Phish Companion puts the set break after Golgi, it is pretty
obvious when listening that there is no break due to the segue.  Also, I
believe the set break is after GTBT since Trey states that they are going
to take a short break and be right back.

Fixes:
-Applied Cool Edit hiss reduction based on noise floor sample at
end of d2t04 (after cut-pure hiss, no music or background noise)

Notes:

All three sources are VHS tapes received from Andre F.  It's probably safe to assume that at least one of the full set vids was from betty07, but can't confirm.

Source 1: Middle distance, reasonable close-ups on zoom, but extensive use of the diamond screens to the side of the stage - which means that this is the primary source
Source 2: Back of the arena, grainy when zoomed, but good views of whole stage set for back-drop shots
Source 3: Excellent close-up footage - but unfortunately only 18 minutes in total

Audio fix notes for soundtrack:

Running a little fast, speed correction with a factor of 96.9875% to bring in line with video.
2 second piece in intro to Rebel Rebel fluttery - source 2 soundtrack dropped in to replace.
Tape flip gives gap between Fashion and Life On Mars?  Plugged with source 2 soundtrack.
First 11 seconds of Ziggy Stardust completely distorted.  Plugged with section from bofinken torrent, speed adjusted at 100.555% and derumbled using iZotope RX2 denoiser tool.
Corrupted segment at 1:53 in Station To Station (3 seconds) - Let's Dance repair from next repeat.
Tape flip at start of Suffragette City - seamless.
Gap in Fame around 40 seconds in.  14 second extract from bofinken torrent (fixed as above) dropped in to replace.

Additional audio fix notes for audio discs:

Flutter in Rebel Rebel fixed with two Let's Dance repairs from, respectively, following and previous lines.
Tape flip between Fashion and Life On Mars?  Fade out on Fashion crowd noise then mix crowd noise together.  Noticeable, but it'll do.
Volume reshaping to left channel from Life On Mars? to middle of Stay.
Major volume reshaping to right channel in Let's Dance from 32 to 43 seconds - muffled sound.
Start of Ziggy Stardust massively oversaturated.  iZotope RX2 declipper tool used to bring it to realistic levels, but distortion still there.
Volume reshaping on second part up to Suffragette City.
