"One True Vine"-Mavis Staples
« on: August 11, 2013, 10:51:40 AM »
Just listened all the way through to Mavis Staples latest, "One True Vine." What a beautiful album.

It's short by today's CD standards, but every song packs a punch, (better to say a caress).  Her second album produced by Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy is quiet and confident.  Most of the record is gospel themed, but not gospel sounding...and the music exults in the joy she's found.  There is even a cover of Funkadelic's "Can you get to That" written by the universal God of Funk, George Clinton.

Here's a link to listen from beginning to end:

Highly recommended.

I've got her "You Are Not Alone" album. Very Christian oriented blues-gospel. Excellent album though for sound and get up and boogy.
