Beatles 180g LP Set
« on: October 12, 2012, 09:10:51 PM »
Has anyone else pulled the trigger and pre-ordered one of the Beatles box sets. I am getting mine from Music Direct for $349 incluing tax and shipping.

After the Pink Floyd LP SQ disasters last year I was a little gun shy about buying the whole collection without any insight into how the SQ was so I decided to order the set and then an extra copy of Sgt Pepper. I can listen to Sgt Pepper and compare it to the the other versions I have (British EMI, MFSL and MFSL UHQR).  If the SQ is up to snuff then I will open the set. If not I am sure I can either return or sell a sealed set. I missed out on the MoFI set back in the 80s and this is a limited run so figured I had better grab a set while I still could. I would have really hated myself if I sat back and waited for a review only to find out that they were all sold out by then.

The SQ on the recently released McCartney 180g LPs was very good so I am hopeful..... [-o<

Tom, I like you have a lot of Beatles LPs so I'm not going to buy it (at least that what I'm saying today LOL)
I've heard that they will release a Mono LP set, if so I'll be all over that one.

I like that song with the long guitar note at the beginning. Is it "I wanna hold your hand?"

Guess we should bring this back to Tom's question - "No".

I don't think that's it, unless that's a different performance from the original hit in 60s? I'll figure out what it is when I go out thisafter...

I ordered Peppers, Revolver, Rubber Soul and Past Masters. I have MMT, Abbey Road and White Album on MFSL LPs (bought new way back when) and the Mono box set CD. Those 4 should hold me.

Thanks to Dave G for helping me remember the title of that song, it is "I feel fine." This was a big step forward for them, harmonically, rhythmically, arrangement, and using ear candy as a hook. Shades of great things to come.

I'm more interested in the mono set.  I have the MoFi Beatles boxed set and a number of Capitol Records US stereo LPs.

When (and if) the 180g mono set arrives I will compare them with the three minty original UK mono Parlophone pressings I have of Rubber Soul, Revolver, and Sgt. Peppers.

I may end up with the stereo set as well but that is a harder to justify purchase, what with all the various stereo Beatles LPs I have.
