thinking about speakers
« on: March 02, 2011, 10:56:10 AM »
I'm having an exploratory talk with Tony Gee (of HumbleHiFi) about making a pair of really good TL's. I don't know his prices yet but since there's no middle-man, I expect them to be reasonable. Is that not Nervosa shamelessly talking?

Like this one?

or maybe one using that tasty Fostex that JLM uses.

Tony Gee has some nice designs. I'd like to build the new Soup Ceramic mk2 down the road. Soup Sandwich looks awesome too. But each time I go to price up the parts I get scared.

I missed FedEx knocking on my door today to deliver parts from Denmark to build the DTQWT by Troels Gravesen. I hope he tries again tomorrow, then I can get started.   They are TLs, simple design. You could get any local woodworker to build them.

Looks interesting. I thought you said you were done with DIY speaker building

It's a gradual withdrawal.  ;)  I bought amps for these DIYs last year, then I got sidetracked with Feastrex stuff. So I want to build these before I sell the amps. But I am also auditioning commercial speakers, and saving my pennies.

shep, is that TL above kinda like what you're looking at, or does he have some other ideas for you? Single driver or multiway?

" Hello Shep,

Coincidence will have it that the floorstander I am working on will most likely be a TL.
The woofers will be a Scanspeak 18cm Illuminator and the tweeter a Mundorf AMT 2510c.
Pricing will depend a lot on the cabinet finishing.

regards,
Tony "
This is all I know so far Rich, but looking at the price for drivers alone, I think it will be beyond my means.

Ouch ! hey Shep is Heco Hoern from Germany still around ? I own an older 5302 model. A 3 way silk domed mid, tweeter and paper cone woofer. Stand mounted.  They go down to 25HZ, look good and sound wonderfull.

Thanks, I wouldn't have thought of German speakers. No reason not to. I don't see a Celan 800on their site nor any prices. Pounds as in £?
