Ben Kweller - On My Way

Latter day Ben Folds-y.  Smart, nerdy, punky, alt-rock in its finest form.  (Kweller and Folds were in a band together, aptly named "The Bens").

Art Blakey/Sonny Stitt- In Walked Sonny

Hard bop from two of its masters, recorded and released in 1975, a time when bop was at its nadir in popularity.  Disco and funk had begun to dilute jazz into a polished smooth pablum.  Not here on this record.  Blakey and Stitt bop away in fine form, soulfully and melodically, thankfully ignoring the trends of the time.

I bought this record for a buck at a thrift store.  Knowing that jazz records with multiple stars can be hit or miss, I didn't know what to expect.  Now that I'm hearing it, I realized that you can't go wrong with these old pros.

Listen to the first track: Sonny Stitt with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers - Blues March

Doin' Allright
Dexter Gordon | Format: Vinyl

Weird yellow cover on Applause records, not the Blue Note version, still sounds fine.

Haven't filed anything back in months, thought I'd start today, and promptly found some things I bought and never listened to, like this. Oh well, guess I can re-file later.

Dave Brubeck Quartet ‎– The Great Concerts
2 lp set

Another 'new' find I've had for months, it was behind Dexter, so I must have bought them together.
