Well I have to give a shoutout to Jerome, he hipped me to Stan Kenton on the Crackhouse thread, I quickly found 4 albums, and became a Kenton fan. I especially liked Standards In Silhouette, however side 2 is a little dinged, I'll have to find another copy as I prefered side 2, the last song especially.  :thumb:

Glad to hear that you're enjoying Kenton.  :thumb:  You should also consider grabbing a decent compilation of his 1940s stuff.  There are a number of tunes, such as Intermission Riff, Minor Riff, and others that are an important part of his catalog.  These were originally issued on 78s, and have been reissued on vinyl by Capitol and specialty labels such as Mosaic.  I have the 10 LP boxed set from Mosaic, which is long OOP.  A good place to start is this budget priced Proper Box...

http://www.amazon.com/Stan-Kenton-Story/dp/B000051TPC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1317903185&sr=8-1

You get 4 CDs, and it is the only set that I know of besides the pricey Mosaic set that includes nearly all of Kenton's important 1940s work.  Some of the very first recordings of Stan Getz are here (he joined Kenton in the mid 1940s).  Sound quality is good for the money, even great at times.

Hope your review went well.

Another Kenton fan is sending me 'Complete Capitol Studio Recordings 43-47' on flac.

I'm steaming an 11 album set of Wagner, and threw the 'Song X' lp in the mix to get it good and clean, listening to it now, then boxing it and off to you.

John Coltrane: Coltrane/Prestige 7105

Japanese Import CD

This was Coltrane's first solo album, released in 1957 on Prestige records. Kind of strange the way the cover was laid out so I'm not really sure what the official title is (I've seen it listed several ways and it doesn't help that in 1963 he did an album just titled "Coltrane" for Impulse records). But regardless of the title confusion I found this to be a great album from both a musical and a SQ basis. This one is definitely going on my vinyl search list.

Furtwangler conducts 'Wagner, Der Ring des Nibelungen'

An 11 album set I got for $1, 15 hours of large women in hats with horns sprouting out of them screaming at me in German.

An acquired taste I haven't yet acquired, but I'm plowing through it.

Good luck. I never acquired a taste for it either. But those who do generally become very loyal fans. Hey, to each his own.

That's the Mosaic set.  I have it on vinyl.  Most of the sides were mastered from the original metal parts so the sound is about as good as it can get.
