I've got my X-10D in between my DLC and Class D amplifiers to sweeten things a bit, but I'm interested in a Tube line-stage...

It's crazy, we talk about getting to the truth of the performance, but we have zero control over the recording and mastering of it.
I gave this a listen the other day (https://www.stereophile.com/content/stereophile-test-cd-track-5), and it's wild how much difference a mic can make...

I'll give it a listen. I have that disk here somewhere.

I know it’s an older thread but we always like seeing tubes

I'm definitely into tubes. I haven't heard a phono stage without them yet that I'd take over my current one with them.

Plus 1 to Folsom.

Emil, although not mentioned in typical component specifications, there are other forms of distortion
than harmonic distortion. Surrounding circuitry quality is also important factor in creating distortions.

RCA Radiotron Designers Handbook, by 26 engineers, mentions at least 6 types of distortions, a couple
more not listed.

Typical SS devices produce higher harmonic distortion, and odd orders, than triodes, both without negative
feedback.

Another example, the huge size electrolytic filter capacitors are just one external part that causes distortion.

And it is difficult to measure some types of distortion.

cheers and all the best.
