Title: A observation on SRV...
Post by: P.I. on August 21, 2022, 09:30:23 PM
Been a fan for many years.  Saw him many times...

Early Stevie - lots of fire and angst in his music.

Mid SRV (the cocaine years) - lots of notes with nowhere to go, just be there.

Late SRV (dammit! Only too short!)

True virtuosity, prescient feeling and a connection to his calling/gift/craft that lived and breathed in a different zone.

I was blessed to see him on the same bill with Jeff Beck during their '89 tour.  A great concert!

Can't even imagine what it would have been like to see and hear him.
I consider Little Wing to be one of the best instrumentals of all time.

No matter which SRV era one caught there was never any doubt about his passion for what he was playing! Musical girth and tone for a lifetime.
