Is removing scalps a good thing?   :?

No, it is highly frowned upon by the scalpee.   [-X    Too much treble and too shouty.

There were some amps that sounded less shouty than others. The Cary was the worst, even though it sounded fine on traditional multiway speakers. The 300B was the least shouty, but it paled next to the little chip amp in current mode. Cool experiment. I want to revisit the single driver scene again sometime. Between Scott's Lowther recommendation and your Fostex there is a lot of good stuff there. The feastrex were fast but difficult to tame, like some women I've known.

For me, detail, imaging, and soundstage are important, but ultimately, I want a system that when I close my eyes the music sounds live-whether it is a girl and guitar or a symphony.  I tend to set aside many of my older recordings that don't provide that illusion.
