Manufacturer News / Re: Modified Magnepan 1.7i demo at AXPONA 2024

Response from Cynthia, The Audio Belle on YouTube to the AB comparison was it was a night and day difference, she could not believe the difference between the original passive crossover and the DSP crossover versions.

Works for me! :)

Snooks Eaglin - guitar, vocals
Eddie Bo - piano (Set II)
Tommy Ridgley - vocals (from Check Mr. Popeye)
Carmen Jacob - drums
Irving Charles - bass

One of many Snooks + Eddie Bo performances around this time, this is a nice recording after the first 20 seconds or so.  The tape was a little bass heavy, which has been corrected.  The last track cuts; we don't know how much longer the show went on.  The last four songs are Tommy Ridgley's.

Enjoy!

Nick,
Thanks, but I am not at AXPONA 2024.

Danville Signal in room 356 has the Magnepan 1.7i's that I helped with the DSP crossover design for tri-amping them with the dspNexus 2x8 system.

They built the AB switching box for the demo.  All the amps are the same as well as the front end uses all 8 channels of the dspNexus 2x8.  Two channels are just direct DAC connections to the amps driving the original passive crossovers and the other 6 DAC's are the 3-way DSP crossover to the amps.

Feedback so far is that the demo is showing the listeners how not subtle the difference the DSP crossover can make when it is really at the state of the art.  :)

Phish
1-27-1988 AKA 1-30-1988
Gallagher's Waitsfield VT.

This show is dated 1-30-1988 on Phish.net as well
as on my dat.
This show is dated 1-27-1988 in the Phish Companion
so I elected to seed it using this date.

SOURCE:SBD>CASS(0)>DAT
DAT>SHN:Tascam DA-20>COAX>WAV>COOL EDIT>CDWAV>SHN
Via MKW.These SHN files are seekable in your SHNamp.
I have included both shn and wav md5s.

This show has been on a journey through the Cool Edit.
Using the Noise Reduction Feature, I have removed
2/3 of the hiss from this copy. There is still
a little bit of hiss, but it comes and goes in waves
instead of a constant annoyance. Before I did this,
the hiss was over the music, now it is behind it.
The music was left completely unaltered in this process.

When the show was originally recorded, the analog
taper kept reseting their levels louder and louder
to the point where there is some vibration. No
real distortion, just some annoying vibration so
don't crank these full throddle.I tried various
tools to try and fix it.I could not get it to my
liking so I chose to leave it alone.

About 2 minutes of Lizards is missing.
It is a very strange time for an analog flip,
but if this taper used 2 tapes for a 3 set show,
the timing matches up.

This is a fabulous show.If I had to give it a grade
for quality...
If it was recorded after 1993 it would be a "C".
Since it was recorded in 1988 and I was able to remove
most of the hiss, I give it an "A--".

100 Songs and More - Night 7 of 10

With Steve Nieve

Night 7 of 10 of EC's no repeat residency at the tiny Gramercy Theatre in New York City.  A night of Elvis and Steve Nieve.  Again, a few songs feature electronic backing and samples prepared in the studio especially for this show.  Great show and great recording.  Includes and almost never played Pretty Words, and any show with Poor Napoleon is a winner.  Steve sings a verse of PLU.  I previously uploaded night 3.  This is not next best show or the next best sounding, it's just the next one.  There will be more.  Samples below.  I didn't mention this on the first upload, but these shows include many great stories from EC and poignant words about Burt Bacharach, Elvis' friend and collaborator who passed away the night before this run of shows started.

24bit 48K recording. If you still burn to CD, it's pretty easy to convert the files to CD specs. Most burning programs do it internally. If burning, break before Party Girl. If not, the show will play seamless.

Sonic Studios mic>Battery Box>Edirol R-09HR>ProTools (for level adjustment, eq, compression, and song separation)>Flac

Taped and mastered by JB. Please don't sell. Please do not convert to lossy format and upload anywhere.
