My Pioneer DV-108 drive just went TU after only a year. What is a good reliable brand to replace it with?

I have been very happy with my Plextor CD Burner. 7 years ago, Plextor was THE brand. I need a DVD Burner, so I will be buying a Plextor. It has run flawlessly under NT, 98, XP in three different computers. I have thrown out several OEM drive in the meantime.

They test TONS of ROM drives. My strategy was to go to their archives, back a year or two, then look for used models they loved on Ebay.
I believe Plextor is still the gold standard. If you buy a new-ish one, they come with the Plextools software package that is very functional and informative. They're also the gold standard in price.

I've had the best results using 1 drive for CD's and one for DVD's and not using the all-in-one combo. I've heard this works best for others as well. I use Plextor for CD... would consider it for DVD also.... but I have HP dvd drives at the moment.
