Rossini: La Boutique Fantasque - Solti/Israel Philharmonic Orchestra
London "Blue Back" LP (English Pressing)
There is something just very "right" about the sound of this album. It also contains The Socerer's Apprentice, which when compared to the Reference Recording version found on Mephisto & Friends is much less dynamic and spectacular sounding. But while it is not as impressive sounding as the RR it is at the same time more natural and true to what I would expect to hear in a good concert hall.
Which once again brings us back to the same question of whether an album should try to give us the best sound they can record or the closest reproduction of an actual concert experience?
