recent reissue, 2006. on the ESP-Disk label...
Quote
ESP's reissue series matches two classics on one disc, Sun Ra's Heliocentric Worlds, Vol. 1 & 2. These two 1965 sessions feature the Arkestra playing out, but mostly in small units, and rarely with the quirky humor often in evidence on Ra recordings. This space seems more intimate and introspective than some other galactic narratives in the discography. While the music here sounded like incomprehensible free jazz to critics living in the age of the Beatles and Herman's Hermits...http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/article.php?id=18845

Eva Cassidy: Simply Eva

A collection of unreleased recordings featuring Eva Cassidy with a solo acoustic guitar.
Some of the best stuff I have heard from her to date. If you like Eva Cassidy this is a must buy IMO.

Yusf Islam/Cat Stevens: An Other Cup

Cat Stevens sold over 50 million albums in the 1970s.  Stevens had been searching for a spiritual path and a near fatal drowning incident had resulted in an epiphany. He decided to follow the path to Islam, converting in 1977 and taking the name Yusuf Islam in 1978. In keeping with his beliefs, he abandoned his music career shortly after and turned his attention to philanthropic works. in 2006 the released An Other Cup his first album of new pop material in over 25 years. While the songs do not promote any religion in particular they do have a generic religious overtone at many of them simply advocate simply doing the right thing and living a moral life. A pleasant change from so much of today's pop music that glorifies sex, drugs violence, or all three. The music is very Cat Stevens in stlye and well recorded.

So you have an album with good music, good sound & a good message. What a pleasant combination.

Cat Stevens: Tea for the Tillerman - MFSL UHQR

I was playing the Yusuf CD mentioned above this afternoon and my wife's home health aid recognized the voice as Cat Steven's and told me how much of a Cat fan she was.

I couldn't help myself, I just had to take her down to the mancave, sit her in the listening chair and put on the "Tillerman " UHQR. It absolutely blew her away  (I love it when that happens  )

I have to admit, I have not played this LP in a while and it impressed me too.  8) The MFSL UHQR LPs are the granddaddy of all audiophile records. Too bad they only released 8 of them.  :(

Yeah, both you and my son. He's been drooling so much over my collection lately that I had to tell hm I changed my will to state that if I died from anything other than natural causes the stereo and all the records and CDs would go to his brother!  [-X

At least now I can sleep with both eyes closed.

Paul McCartney: Band on the Run

Ordered this 180g 2 LP set from Amazon. When it arrived I found the entire disc 2 to be unplayable since there were big globs od a sticky goo on both sided (Looked like the glue they used to hold the inner sleeve together had oozed out and onto the record.)  :(

Packed it up, brought it to UPS and it is on its way back to them. Unfortunately they didn't offer me the option of having it replaced, I can only get a refund and place a new order for the same item. What a PITA.  :x

What I did get to hear on the undamaged side was nice and relaxed.  8)

Not a huge difference from the 25th Anniv CD, but the LP just had a sense of "realness" that did not come across on the CD.  :-k

The remastering was done at Abby Road by the same team that worked on the recent Beatles CD remasterings. Could there be a glimmer of hope that we may see some 180g Beatles vinyl in the not so distant future?  [-o<

I am telecommuting today because of last night's ice storm and I am sitting in my home office right now listening to my son play Dark Side of the Moon in the next room. There has to be joke buried somewhere in that situation about second hand smoke.  :duh
