Gentle Giant 1975-01-27 Agora Ballroom Cleveland OH WMMS-FM (T-581)

This release is sourced from a cassette tape that I got in trade many years ago from a fellow taper / trader.  It's from an FM broadcast.  Recorded by Cleveland's WMMS Radio for broadcast two days later.  At the very tail end of Excerpts from Octopus, the band got off and the music nearly fell apart.  Fortunately, they recovered and ended together.
On Jan. 29 the Cleveland show from Jan. 27 was broadcast on WMMS Radio in edited form as part of that station's regular Monday Night at the Agora series.  For more info on Gentle Giant visit http://members.aol.com/JAskelly/GGtourhistory.html

  5.  So Sincere (including drum solo)

I fixed a few bad edits and checked the speed.  I have included a file gg1975-01-27 (T-581)edits removed.flac which contains all the sound from the edits made when sound was deleted.  If you burn as audio I wouldn't recomend including this file on the audio disc.

I did the editing, mastering (tweaking) and analog to digital transfer for this version of this show.   Please keep the text file, unaltered, together with the FLAC's.

Don't rename directories or file names if you share this.  My concern is that when people rename them they drop information like date, venue, location, T number.  This information is useful to others when searching for or deciding which version of a show they want or already have.

Artist: Bonnie Raitt
Date: 31 March 2023
Location: Kahului, Maui, Hawaii
Venue: A&B Amphitheater at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center

Lineage: sp-cmc-4u (c)> bbox> Roland R-07 (24/48) >
RX9-Ozone 9 > TLH > flac24

Recording Notes: My first show with new mics. Tested OK at home and at beginning of show but the right mic lost all connection in the first few minutes. As a result, this is a recording of the right mic copied and pasted into the left channel.

Bonnie was very appreciative of being on Maui again. One interesting item was that after she played "Just Like That" someone from the audience interrupted her , offered her a lei and explained that they lost a child in December. Bonnie then proceeded into her donor rap.

So with that - take this if you need it - if you don't just pass it on.

This recording should not be sold.

Aloha from Maui,

Emmylou Harris - At Beat Club, Musikladen, Radio Bremen, Germany (26-3-1977??) DVD PAL

This is from a different source than the other Musikladen I uploaded here a few months ago.
The video quality is more or less the same, however the audio quality in this is significantly
better, which is odd, since both are MP2 192 Kbps 48000 Hz. I guess this is due to the quality
of the recording device or TV quality broadcast. Unfortunately we have no more information about
the source. The guy who got me the recording just remember that she had recorded a satellite
channel at midnight a few years ago (sic)...F'in great!...This is what it is anyway, and
it's a lot.

This is for me perhaps (Along with The Old Grey Whistle Test 1977) the best 70's gig by Emmylou
Harris on video. The band sounds better than ever, we note that they enjoy it, Emmylou's voice
is better than ever, and (Of course)
she looks so beautiful as ever.
   I hope you enjoy it!

Note:

Exceptional early Feat. The leading 50 seconds of the recording sounds a bit muffled, but don't despair because it quickly changes to a much better sound. Overall this is a great classic recording of 1973. I did the audio extraction using EAC and split Track06 up into its correct tracks using CD Wave - no errors - log file included.

To date this show has not been listed on etree, featbase.net, or archived in the LMA.

Source:  Unknown Source (AUD, possibly onstage) > DAT(s)
Transfer:  Otari DP-90 > coax > E-MU 404 > Wavelab 6.0 @ 48kHz
DSP: Wavelab 6.0 (tracking; pan adjustments; remove DC offset; 48 > 44.1 (Crystal Resample) > FLAC > Easytag

Disc 1
Set I

1. Highway 61 Revisited
2. Tongue & Groove
3. Baby Baby
4. Home On The Range
5. Mercury Blues

Disc 2
Set II
1. "How about . . . the opening band?"
2. Golden Road
3. Outskirts of Town
4. Pits of Thunder

An excellent recording and some great music, especially the Golden Road which clocks in over 22 minutes long.  Although the setlist seems like a short show, they played for two solid hours.

The DAT had a half-dozen errors on it, all of which were removed or smoothed out using Wavelab's error correction tools, or by re-drawing the waveform, and they are now unnoticeable.

As of January 2010, this performance does not seem to circulate.  Thanks to Scott Clayton for the DAT.

Steve Kimock - Guitars
Chris Templeton - Slide & Pedal Guitar
Bobby Vega - Bass
Greg Anton - Drums
Chip Roland - Keys
Martin Fierro - Horns

A great capture of a great show. Early Billy Joel playing in N.Y. - home turf and all that.

No more info on lineage is available to me. That being said, the quality of the recording is top notch.
The lack of any noticeable tape hiss and clarity of the recording makes me believe this is a pre FM recording.
