Live music in the triangle
« on: October 07, 2011, 02:49:03 PM »
I'll be starting a consulting gig in and around Chapel Hill, where are the good live music spots?

Jazz especially.

Good to hear you will be in town - how long?

Hopefully long enough to check out the local record stores.  [-o<

Probably start end of the month, these gigs usually involve being on-site one or two weeks out of three. You fly in late Sunday, fly out Thursday in early evening. So far looking like a 2 month engagement, but it could grow.

Preservation Hall Jazz Band will be playing at my wife's venue in early December.... Not sure if you'll be around then.

Some venues to check out:

Carolina Theater (just renovated) in Durham
Page Auditorium at Duke University
Memorial Auditorium at UNC
DPAC in Durham (Been ranked in Billboard Magazine as a top 50 venue two years in a row)

If you want to check out the smaller music clubs... In Chapel Hill area:

Cats Craddle has a good draw
Local 302
The Cave

The 3 places above draw a University, young adult crowd.

There's some places in dowtown Raleigh that aren't bad... If you find you're going to venture into the "big" city... I'll toss some more suggestions.

Have you started work in the area? Made it out to any local venues?
