A suite of software products for the audiophile's digital audio collection. Some pretty fancy tools here to enhance speed, sorting, flexibility, fine control.   $63

I saw a review about this player software somewhere. Maybe in a recent print magazine, like TAS? I think it was mentioned on the cover.  Anyone notice it? Thanks
Rich

Here it is..

I'm going to look into this. I would like better database functions than Sonos offers, especially for classical recordings.

Rich,
Did you (or anyone else) use the Musichi software?

Interesting product and read.

Another product that I'm extremely happy with is Roon.   It's goal is to integrate extensive metadata with your collection and the UI is to die for.   I've heard some comments about it being very good with classical, but I've also seen one or two from classical music diehards that it's still not good enough.

Roon has replaced LMS for me (and can still stream to my squeezeboxes).  They do have a 14 day trial and it's easy enough to give it a spin.   There's a thread about it here on AN somewhere.

I recently downloaded it again, but haven't had much time to play with it.

I’m a fan of the MusiCHI tagger.
It saves me a lot of time tagging classical.

It has a big list of composers.
It also has a list of the almost all the works by major composers.
This is very helpful in keeping composers and compositions spelled uniformly.
Thanks to this list and its text parsing, it is often able to subtract the composition form the title.
This really saves a lot of time.

I downloaded Musichi and installed it on my Roon server. I haven't used it much yet, but it seems like a nice system for picking and sorting music, especially classical. Much more powerful than I need actually.

The problem is that it can't stream directly to my NAA like Roon does. Musichi wants to play to the local Windows default sound device. So I've been trying to find workaround. If you set Musichi player to external player mode, then it can submit a m3u playlist to HQPlayer running on same machine, which can stream playback to NAA. HQPlayer can also do the DSP that I would hate to give up from Roon. The scheme is a bit cloogey in that if you switch to this external player mode in Musichi, then you can only select the music in Musichi, transport control and volume is done on the HQPlayer GUI.

If you do this external player scheme, then you also can't use Musichi's client server version, which means no tablet remote control app (Windows only.  )  I guess you could Remote Desktop. So there are some glaring deficiencies compared to Roon in the new technology dept.

Another app called Muso is a "centralised information repository" not a player. But it can also submit selected songs to HQPlayer via m3u. It also looks promising.

Rich, interesting investigation.  If you do discover exactly what makes MusiCHi or Muso work better with classical music than Roon, consider posting your insights in the Roon forums.   I've found them to be extremely good listeners and you might just find yourself having a significant influence on Roon since they definitely acknowledge they need to do better with classical music.

Rich,
Another option to use as front end for HQPlayer is Alchemy (http://www.origen.net.au/Alchemy/).  I use JRiver with EOS (Android) and JRemote (IOS) as front end for HQPlayer Embedded (requires separate license) which runs on a dedicated audio system which is based around Ubuntu Xenial LTS.  I wrote a guide on setting up HQP Embedded - https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2cLWlF9cpc9MkQxTTVDdHJTSEk/view?usp=sharing and the thread discussing HQP Embedded on ComputerAudiophile (https://www.computeraudiophile.com/forums/topic/30983-hqplayer-linux-desktop-and-hqplayer-embedded/).

The guide has couple of missing steps but I can walk folks through those errors while I work on updating the document.

Edit: I use BubbleUPnP on Android tablet to stream Tidal to HQPlayer and EOS (JRiver Android Remote) to stream my ripped CD.
