The Beatles: A Jazz Tribute - Various High Note Artists

  High Note CD

Musically this was OK, but sonically it was rather flat and two dimensional, with no sense of space at all. Pass this one by.

Jim Brickman: Pure Piano & Pure Romance

My wife is a big Jim Brickman fan and I find most of his music very relaxing so we have quite a bit of his work for Windham hill, which you can count on for good SQ.

Well these two CDs are from Greenhill productions and the sound from both of them was horribly tinny and the upper octaves were so distorted that I had to put on another CD just to convince myself that I hadn't blown out my tweeters. I cannot believe that anyone in the music business could let something like this out the door thinking, "yeah that's good."

I could not be happy enough that these last four discs came from my trip to the library last night. I have found many good discs there, but it is times like this that you are very thankful you didn't have to lay out any cash for these sinkers. (OK, the Beatles tribute and the Chris Botte were just OK, but these two Brickman discs were just junk.)

Phil Woods Quintet: American Songbook

Phil Woods Quintet: American Songbook 2

After listening to the David Benoit CD on my last post I took a look around Tidal and found these two albums , also from the Swiss jazz label Kind of Blue Records.  Well this makes them three for three in my book as far as good music and good sound go. I will be looking for more releases from this label in the future.

Michael Bolton: Timeless - The Classics

Columbia CD

A nice selection of music. My wife will probably like it, but I for one can only take so much of Michael Bolton's voice in one sitting.
