The Pretty Things ~ S.F. Sorrow   1968

S.F. Sorrow is the title of a 1968 LP by the British rock group The Pretty Things.

One of the first rock concept albums, S.F. Sorrow was based on a short story by singer-guitarist Phil May. The album is structured as a song cycle, telling the story of the main character, Sebastian F. Sorrow, from birth through love, war, tragedy, madness, and the disillusionment of old age.
Although the album is a rock opera, it has been stated by members of The Who that the record had no major influence on Pete Townshend and his writing of Tommy (1969). The Pretty Things, however, have suggested otherwise, as have some critics over the years.
Recording began at Abbey Road Studios in November 1967 with work on "Bracelets of Fingers." Two tracks that had been earmarked for the album, "Talking About the Good Times" and "Walking Through My Dreams," were instead released as a single in February 1968.

       LP

I saw Claude Bolling with Larry Coryell at the Bottom Line in NYC around 1986 or 87.  They played "Suite for Piano and Jazz Guitar."  He also performed "Flute" with a flautist doctoral candidate from NYU.  Not Rampal, but very good and entertaining.

Lots of great Shorter compositions on this one, some up tempo work, Miles plays strong, the vibe is free and easy. From Oct 1966

Rich,

I was looking through the LPs at the Crack House today and what did I come across but......

The cover was absolutely mint so I excitedly picked it up, planning on shipping it down to you so you would have a spare, just in case something happened to your daughter's favorite LP. However; my excitement turned to gloom when I looked at the LP and both sides had  deep scratches in them, rendering the LP absolutely useless.

I was thinking of you buddy, but this time it just didn't work out.  :(

Just saw your post today, Tom. Thank you so much!

Some little girl used that one to death!

Kinda figured that. I'll keep my eyes peeled for one that 's not trashed. You never know what shows up at the  Crack House. And keeping little girls happy is a very important thing.  :thumb:

Yes indeed! And the big girls too!

This album sounds so great on my little stereo - Thanks BISL! Sol's bitchin 60W killer amp is a big part of it, and all JPS wires, and a great DAC, but I am amazed how good these little Infinity Entra 1s sound, especially in the bass. They are small bookshelfs made of cheap pressboard and electro caps, tiny little coils and cement resistors, with a reflex port. But they have the CMMD drivers (Ceramic Metal Matrix Driver) which have incredible stiffness and dynamics. I think I am just used to their flaws by now, but I really enjoy listening to music through them, at least with these upstream components.

Absolutely. The little ones may whine a bit more when they're unhappy, but unlike the big ones, they won't make you sleep on the couch.

Awesome!

Listening to the Saturday night latin jazz radio show on WSHA FM. The good stuff with harmonized singers, big brass bands and real musicians, not that synthesized mindless mexican pop crap.http://www.shawu.edu/wsha/Listen_Live/Listen_Live.aspx

I haven't been able to spend any time in the mancave as of late, but I have spent a lot of time in the car over the past week and here is a smattering of what I listened to there.
