My favorite reading of Scheherazade id the 1960 Decca recording of Ansermet and the Suisse Romande. Over the years I have collected quite a few pressings of it, an original London Blu Back LP, the King Records Super analogue LP, several domestic and import CDs and the HDTT DSD 256 file version. While I think that , at least on my system, the Super Analogue LP is the best sounding, the HDTT DSD is close to it and since I was working on my taxes yesterday, the convenience of file, based music won out.

Could you give me the record numbers?  I've looked on Discogs without success.  Found it... wow, it's an old recording! 1950.  Obviously pre stereo.
Now to track down the Super Analogue LP.

I called a friend that was just about to go in to the Abilene Philharmonic... and he tells me the program this evening is..... Rimsky-Korsakov's  Scheherazade.
Too much of a coincident, so I looked for my Mercury Living Presence copy, to find out it's mono in a stereo jacket.
No problem, to me mono sounds very lifelike as if you're sitting 30+ rows back.
I gotta say, there are some tonality things and hall ambience that mono recording do extremely well!!

My cover is from the 1959 pressing, but the record is actually the 1952 performance.  Wow.  Great performance.

Sharp eye. The cover art from the HDTT release does actally use the cover from a 1950 release, but the recording was done in Victoria Hall, Geneva during Nov. of 1960

This is the original London Blueback cover from that recording:

And the Super Analogue cover look like this:

Discogs links for both versions:

https://www.discogs.com/release/1216916-Rimsky-Korsakov-Borodin-Ansermet-LOrchestre-De-La-Suisse-Romande-Scheherazade-Polovtsian-Dances-From

https://www.discogs.com/release/15678438-Rimsky-Korsakov-Ansermet-LOrchestre-De-La-Suisse-Romande-Sch%C3%A9h%C3%A9razade

And for me the preference for this recording comes not because of the SQ, which is excellent, but rather from the reading of the piece. I find the Ansermet performance to be very lush and engaging and it pulls you in on an emotional level as  compared to say the Reiner/Chicago Symphony Living Stereo version which is more driving and dynamic and tends to grab your attention  instead of lulling you in. Both are good performances, but they approach the work from different directions.

Today after getting a haircut, I entered my car to the beginning of the 3rd movement of Beethoven’s 5th on 91.1 WSHU out of Connecticut. Stick with me- I have a question.
I thought it fantastic- my benchmark or soft spot for the Fifth is Leonard Bernstein conducting the Vienna Philharmonic.
I liked this even more. I am no expert regarding these things- I just know what I like. Today’s pacing was quick, but not overly so. Luckily I drive a Sonata, or who knows what mayhem could’ve occurred.
I tracked this down- https://www.amazon.com/Beethoven-Complete-Symphonies-Ludwig-van/dp/B005CYLSW8
It doesn’t appear to be available via Tidal- I tried several ways of looking it up.
Now the question- if anyone out there does enjoy the Fifth, and I admit it may be the ‘Hotel California’ of classical(as in overplayed), please check it out as I’d like my opinion either validated or shot down.
Or just let me know what service this is available on. I’m buying the cd’s- I’d hope the other symphony interpretations
appeal to me as well.
Happy listening.

I don't know if this is the same recording that you heard, but I was able to find a Bernstein/ NYP Beethoven's 5th on Tidal

https://listen.tidal.com/album/80313687/track/80313692

If you liked that one you might want to check out the Reiner Living Stereo version.

This is a Tidal link to the complete set of Reiner/Chicago Symphony RCA recordings. It's a 63 Disc set. Beethoven's 5th can be found on Volume 34. Reiner's hard charging style mates well with the 5th.
