Building a new design open baffle planar line array with the new planars in house. These are moded from the first pair of drivers to a lower impedance of 9 Ohms. This lets me drive a pair in parallel with monoblocks. The baffles to make the first pair arrived today and in the picture.
The crossover to begin with will be the dspMusik 2x8. This will drive the 3 pairs of monoblocks with long XLR cables and short speaker cables.
The response should be 250Hz to 20KHz from the line array and a pair of 3x12 OB H-Frame servo subs for 250Hz down.
Will be moved to the audio room for planar installation and testing before disassembly. Will get an automotive style finish when ready.

Hi Rich,
How tall will these be and what size is the bottom platform? Also, what was the prior impedance?

Nick,
They are 6'1" tall and 18"w x 29"d for the base.
The original planar drivers are 20 Ohms.

Thanks, Rich. I’ll admit to knowing virtually nothing about technical specs sometimes, but I can’t say I ever recall having seen anything regarding 20 ohms.
-
That is more in the range of planar headphones impedance than for home speakers. That is why I asked for the moded drivers.

Thanks, Rich. Just learned a little more tonight
-
How many drivers are you gong to put in those frames?
-
tmazz,
There will be 6 planar drivers per array.
Those 6 planar drivers weigh 30lbs.
-
A set of two in series X three sets in parallel?
-
Two of the planars are in parallel with one monoblock output. The monoblocks are setup for a 4 Ohm load, so the pair will be 4.5 Ohm. This will let me have minimum speaker cable lengths to all drivers from the amps.
Each pair of drivers will have different input signal time delays for the beamforming capability.
The amp inputs are all balanced XLR's for longer signal cable runs and no ground loops.

:duh Of course, I knew you wouldn't hook them up to a stereo amp like most of us troglodytes with our single amp and preamp. What was I thinking? :thumb:

Yep, that's Rich! :thumb:

Well, I got it down to 8 DAC channels instead of 12 DAC channels! Progress! :thumb:

The first pair of HAL AGN Line Array open baffle planar speakers are now ready for wiring and testing.
After testing is complete, they are off to have the metallic paint finish applied.
RMAF2021 is about 2 months away!
-
The AGN Line Array's are connected and operational.
The dspMusik 2x8 is driving three pair of Orchard Audio original BOSC (now Starkrimson) amps. They are being used with two 3x12in OB servo subs. The lower half of the two 6x12in OB servo sub arrays.
Now for some speaker measurements and crossover tweaking. Even with a modified Magnetar DSP crossover they sound really good. :thumb:
-
Just curious, if you have the 6x12 sub towers why did you choose to only use 3 drivers on each side?
-
tmazz,
The line arrays will work well in most rooms with two 3x12in's. I am testing them that way getting ready for RMAF2021 as the ceiling height is limited.
If you are in a room with an 8' ceiling, putting in a 6x12in at 88in tall can be problematic. My room has 10' ceiling, so no problem with the full stack.
Another practical reason is that one HX300 servo amp will drive a 3x12 stack. Go to 4x12 or more and you need two HX300 servo amps per side. Waiting to hear about the new HX580 amps that are dual HX300's.

Makes sense.
Thanks

Now that CAF2023 is complete and the room is rebuilt after the water problems are solved, time to go back to the AGN Line Array project.
This is the room before the damage and repairs with the Aegean Blue AGN Line Arrays. Will be moving them back to the listening room now that it is redone.
The 6x12's made by Ruben in the picture, base cabinets were destroyed by the water, so captainhemo is cutting a new set of modular 6x12 flat packs to build new servo sub arrays. First set of 6x12 flat packs are here with the second set in work. I have a plan for the remaining original sub modules. :)
Already have the Audio Weaver block diagram ready to test with the dspNexus 2x8 when the subs are ready.
Hopefully soon will have the new dspBlok and new AK4499EX DAC boards to really give these a workout.

I feel as though I owe you, because you cured my nervosa for Led Zeppelin's "In The Light". Sent you my list, but sending it again here in this thread. Surely there must be SOMETHING you want?

Ummm, Rich, do you ever rest?? Just wonderin’…. 😄

Nick,
Sometimes.
The line arrays and servo subs are for my listening room. Time to finally finish the design.
There maybe an AGN II! :o

Rich,
I’m glad you’re on track with this again. I’ve never experienced water damage, but remember when Charles had his disastrous situation.

Nick,
Thanks!
It is nice to have a dry room again and the POD that had everything from the room during rework emptied and gone. :)
