The Civil Wars- Barton Hollow
« on: February 16, 2012, 11:03:11 AM »
Just a lovely little album.
I watched the Grammy's the other night and there was a duo on the screen who just sang for about 1 minute. They were the best of the evening even though Jennifer Hudson was terrific in her tribute to Whitney.
Anyway, although I'm not a big Country fan, this CD/vinyl( took a chance an ordered in both formats) is very simple with just two beautiful part harmonies that reminds me a little of Allison Krause/Plant without the bombastic bass.
I haven't dropped the needle yet on the vinyl but the CD is recorded very nicely so I'm looking forward to spinning the wax.
Joy Williams has such a beautiful tone and John Paul White blends in perfectly while playing his guitar. Although only 40 minutes/12 songs, this duo will have you wanting more.
Highly recommend with the emphasis placed firmly on High :thumb:

Saw them live on Mtn Stage in Charleston, WV last fall.  Beautiful job with their 4 song set.  Pretty voice and easy on the eyes.
No new money spent on audio!!  but starting in 2012!!

You're in for a treat with the vinyl, Bill.  I was listening to that one tonight.  Spelly turned me on to those guys.

LW, we're in sync.  I listened to both of those albums this evening!

As long as we're sharing music in this vein, be sure to check out Sarah Jarosz's album 'Follow Me Down'.  Very well recorded and awesome music!   A young and very talented upcoming singer, songwriter and musician!

Here's a short interview with Sarah:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mowpvATJz-A

Chris,

I ended up with Over The Rhine's " Good Dog Bad Dog" CD. All live recordings that is stellar. Maybe the first song doesn't float my boat so much as the recording is just so-so but the rest of the album is very nice.

On a totally different subject, Have you heard Tord Gustafson's new release "The Well"? Nice Sunday Jazz music.
