Tommy Emmanuel: Accomplice One

Tidal Streaming

The two albums that I posted were the first I had heard of him. He came up as a recommendation from Tidal so I gave it a try. The first album where I said he was like Earl Klugh was more smooth jazz. There was another album called Pickin' which was done with David Grisman and is hardcore Bluegrass. This one is duets with a whole bunch of other people and kind of varies in style depending on who he is playing with.  I will probably check out a few more of his albums on Tidal and will be able to tell you more after that.

He he is definitely worth checking out if you can pull some of his music up on any of your streaming options.

Hi all.
I am a big fan of Chet Aykins, how does Toomy Emmanuel style compare to Chet Atkins ?

Christian McBride: Number Two Express

Verve CD

This one was just not my style. I like my jazz to have at least some kind of melody thread through it. I know that a jazz piece will wander away from the melody and then wander back to it and that is fine with me. But the music on this album did not seam to have any melodic basis at all. Some folks may enjoy that, and if that's your thing you will probably this album, but it is just not for me.

Out of curiousity, I pulled it up on YouTube to take a listen to a couple of tunes.  Gotta say, so far, I like it!  You are correct in that although melodic, a clear melody isn't really present.  Still, it's not just squawks and dissonance.

I don't know if it's the particular CD version that I have, but my speakers turn into a saxophone with this recording. Unlike just about anything else in my collection.

Hi all.
I have a few vinyl and CD of Chuck Mangiony
and since they are in sealed boxes I decided to search
and found this one.
Good recording and nice relaxing music,
if you love the trumpet it's even better.
By the way, I am not a trumpet fan,
but I'm making an exception for this one,
so good I wanted to share.

I agree that is a great album.

Perhaps the reason you like this in spite of not being a trumpet fan is that Mangione does not play a trumpet on this album , it is all flugelhorn, which has a deeper and more mellow tone than a trumpet (the flugelhorn is essentially a soprano tuba.)

here is a link to a short YouTube video which talks about the differences between the two instruments and then demonstrates some scales on both so you can hear for yourself.

Thanks tmazz.
You are right, after seeing the video I now understand better
why I love so much the sound of Mangione.
I can't find the exact words to describe the sound I like
but I would say simply : Mellow as you mentionned.

Hi all.
Another composer - musician that I like
I must say that I am not a piano fan,
but the melody, the sound of the piano make up for it..
I have two vinyl from him.
Very relaxing music with nice melody.

Note :
From the YouTube source,
the sound is not too good, even bad compared to my vinyl.
