This is a direct metal master Blue Note reissue.  I know a lot has been said about DMM and frankly I sometimes think that audiophiles are their own damn worst enemies.  The tendency is to judge, and I say folks need to do more listening and enjoy what they have.  I own a couple of dozen Blue Note DMMs, and I think they sound fine.  I wouldn't go out of my way to buy them, but I had a chance to buy a couple of small lots for not a lot of coin and I said, "Sure, why the hell not?"  I'm glad I did.

"w/ Lester Young on Lester Leaps In. "

Funny you pulled that tune, as it's what I was listening to from the CD I posted. Pandora will have to wait as the sky is about to open up and I'm powering down.

I agree. DMM has gotten a lot of bad press, but IMO they are not that bad. But they are certainly not the be all and end all of records. I wouldn't put them in the category of premium sound records like releases from Classic or Analogue Productions, but I never really felt they sounded particularly bad either. Their biggest crime was not living up to the marketing hype that surrounded them when they first came out. That said, I wouldn't pay a premium price for on just because it was DMM, nor would I try to replace something I already had with a DMM pressing. But if I saw a DMM copy of something I was interested in musically I wouldn't run away from it either. In my mind the record is just a means to an end. The music is the real product. And in my book a less than stellar pressing of outstanding music will beat out a fantastic sounding recording of mediocre music any day of the week. (Hey a great sounding copy of an outstanding musical performance would be ideal, but as Mick and Keith always tell us "You can't always get what you want." )

David Benoit Trio: Standards

  CD

From the Swiss record company Kind of Blue

With Brian Bromberg on Bass and Gregg Bissonett on Drums

Nice collection of classic jazz tunes given a clean small acoustic combo treatment.

I looked on the company's web site, www.kindofbluerecords.com, and saw they had what looks like a nice CD of the Phil Woods Quartet playing the American Songbook. I just ordered it from my friend ALIS. I hope it is as good as this one.

Just a plain vanilla Prestige reissue that sounds fantastic.  I know I buy a lot of expensive 180g 45RPM pressings, but they aren't really essential to excellent sound.  And to be honest I have been let down by a fair number of expensive audiophile pressings that suffered from problems ranging from pressing defects to bad mastering.  Don't get me wrong, because my experience with buying audiophile pressings has largely been positive, otherwise I wouldn't buy them.  OTOH, I get a great deal of listening satisfaction from inexpensive reissue pressings that cost no more than about ten bucks.
