This original Argo pressing is a real gem that is starting to get scarce.  If you have been thinking about adding some Ahmal Jamal records to your library now would be a good time to do it while they are still affordable.  I have seen prices creeping up.

This topic just goes to show that we are still taking the time to just sit back and enjoy music on a daily basis. Especially so much vinyl  The fact that this thread gets several new post every day is refreshing.

Happy listening to everyone on this 4th of July Holiday as well as those who are not here in the USA but are still chilling and liistening to music :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Sorry guys, I guess I don't get to play in this weekend's challenge.

Don't sweat it.  I came up with the idea mainly because I don't have much of a life outside of work and spent most of the holiday weekend on the job.  So I was in my home office much of the time.  I was fairly certain that most of you guys had more important things to do, and I pretty much gave up on it when it seemed that I was the only one playing.  No biggie.  I think it was a good idea...just bad timing to try it over a holiday weekend when people had other things to do.

This original 1964 Wand mono pressing is in surprisingly nice shape all things considered.  The vinyl has excellent luster.  There is a light sleve scuff on side one that doesn't affect play.  I noticed two very light clicks on side two.  The sound is excellent.

Judging from the cover you might get the impression that this is some long lost 1950s Arnett Cobb gem, what with the original David Stone Martin artwork.  Not so.  The sessions for this album were recorded in 1980 in New York and the record was released on the Progressive label in 1981.  This means that the vinyl the record was pressed on is quite thin.  But it sounds pretty darned good.  This is a loose, swingin' session where Cobb feels right at home.  As an elder statesmen of jazz he still had the fire.
