I've noticed a lot of the Chinese stuff looks like late-70's macho-Italian-style for whatever reason... Shiny gold cages, knobs, face plates on shiny black backrounds... way too flashy for me. I don't care for piano black anything, either.. I don't like 'shiny' stuff in large doses... but that's me.
I'm still a fan of the brushed aluminum with dimly lit blue LED's. I like the purplish-blue ones too. Butler's amps look cool... the Manley equipment looks very nice... and then some stuff looks a bit boring... like Conrad Johnson, some of the Levinson stuff, etc.
But, I really don't care what it looks like if it sounds great. I'm not a fan of the looks of my own gear (McIntosh) but love the way it sounds.
