12" Subwoofers: Rythmik, SVS, or ???
« on: November 22, 2019, 10:06:09 PM »
My son is getting an audio rig (from me) that will be a Nuprime IDA-8 and a pair of GR Research XLS-Encores. I bought the Encores from an AC member who had paid Mike Lundy to build them.

I wish to buy a 12" subwoofer for this system. My first thought was Rythmik, but I'm tempted by SVS subs as well. My son is not an audiophile, so he doesn't need a Rythmik F12G (for example). He doesn't watch TV, but he does stream movies on Netflix, HBO, and other sites.

I'll follow up with budget and such in the morning, but I'm curious to learn what others think or might recommend.

get two.  budget for that.  even if you have to go to 10" to meet your budget.  it will sound better - less distortion, better soundstage, and better/easier room integration.  if buying new, i think these are a great deal:

I just placed an order with Rythmik for one L12 sealed sub. My son doesn't need nor would he appreciate an F12G. This L12 ought to give him a taste of better subs, and maybe he'll decide he prefers this sound.

Thanks for your ideas, guys!
