House Cleaning
« on: February 27, 2013, 08:21:48 AM »
Yup it is time to clean those RCA,s, spades, binding posts and the like.
Check your outlets and tighten up the connections and screws, if required. They loosen over time. Polish the blades on the power cords.  Clean those blades on the IEC, usually the most often forgotten.
Check your speaker driver screws as well. Torque them with same pressure. Same for transformers.
Use Progold to clean and protect. Oh clean those ears as well.

Hey, lets be careful out there!

I had one of those male rca cleaners break off inside a female RCA plug.  Ouch!  And that's not even counting the pain of extraction  :duh

Practice safe cleaning

Hi everyone.

What is your take on these cleaning tools?

The new ones do not break. One must use some cleaning fluid with them. The brushes are just wonderful.

I've used this cleaner for RCAs, speaker ends, etc etc.

http://www.daleproaudio.com/p-3154-mg-chemicals-409b-340g-electrosolve-zero-residue-contact-cleaner.aspx

Do any of you open up your equipment and vacuum or clean up the inside? I did that once for my Accuphase gear and a Hafler DH-500 when I had it. I could understand cleaning out the Hafler because it had ventilation and a fan to circulate the hot air out of the amp. It was a major dustbowl in there.

Someone told me after cleaning out the insides of an amp/preamp to then use this cleaner that also had silicone. I can't remember the reasoning why though.

http://www.daleproaudio.com/p-3152-mg-chemicals-404b-340g-contact-cleaner-with-lubrication-silicones.aspx

Could it be they wanted to clean and the coat the circuit board with silicone?

Well it was that time again. Clean as a whistle. The Ayre/Cardas demag track was the icing on the cake.
Demag today especially if you leave gear on 24/7. Your gonna be a happy camper.

Hi Charles

Would your Ayre/Cardas demag track be the same as this CD from IsoTek?

http://www.isoteksystems.com/cgi-bin/products.pl?id=17

I use this CD for before any listening session and run it in my systems weekly. It is also one of the discs I use for any kind of  burn in?

If the Ayre/Cardas demag track is different then what I have from Isotek where can I get the demag track. Thanks
