Title: Howdy
Post by: jhrlrd on July 25, 2018, 09:29:17 PM
I've been into audio since the late 80's.
Lurk and participate on most of the forums.
Just met Luke Manley at a VTL product showcase night at a local shop, that was cool.

Current rig (this week lol)
silver circle pure power 5.0 power cond.
Naim NDX streamer.
Wadia transport.
PS audio Directstream DAC.
Vinnie Rossi DHT preamp 300b.
Atma-sphere S-30 OTL amp.
Autoformers.
Acoustic Zen Adagio speakers.
2 REL subs.
Zenwave cabling.

Highly damped room, I like hearing first-fire, not room resonance.
I get a kick out the pictures of beautiful $100K systems with not a lick of room treatment.
How's your walls sounding?

Micheal green says make your room work for you, not against, like an expansion of your speaker cabinet.
I suppose he's right in the sense that no matter how much room treatment I use, I still can't eliminate the room totally.

How you gonna do that practically? short of buying a total room kit from him.

Also not using and will probably sell a totally bammed-up OPPO 105/ modwright/ASI with Dexa neutron star clock powered by an outboard battery and quite a few more upgrades.

Oh, and I like to mod things too but hard to find the time. My long-time speakers were Thiel 2.2 of which I rebuilt the crossovers and put them into an external box. Adagios are really not any better, both are great

Thanks for the welcome guys.
One important link in the chain I forgot to mention is the
Van Alstine Humdinger DC blocker.
Without it the silver circle 65 pound toroid buzzes a bit, which
you can hear when playing at low levels.
Interestingly, the DC measurement is the same before and after the humdinger.
Maybe there is something wrong with my DC measuring procedure?
I'm just setting my VOM to DC and measuring the input/output while AC is present.

Couldn’t find a reference to Van Evers on the web. Is this the same thing?

haha, yes, slip 'o the tongue. van Alstine is correct. great unit.

I also heard of cascading them, haven't tried it.
There are also plans on the net for building a DC blocker you can
place inside your power conditioner and hard wire in.
might be better than adding sockets and cables to your AC flow.
