Found some Sapphire SAT-1000 surrounds on ebay that I think will work well. From what I was able to read on them, prior to pulling the trigger, they have a smoother more forgiving sound, and listening to white noise bears this out. The Optimus speakers had a much higher pitch than my mains during level matching with white noise, and these seem a better match. For about $90 delivered for the four, I'm happy. Maybe one day, I'll be able to get a good deal on a second set of Gallo Strada (overkill for surrounds?), or maybe a set of the A'Diva, but these will do for now...

So when I updated the room I ran a dedicated 20 amp circuit, with a continuous/unbroken run of 10 gauge, for my equipment rack. My projector however, being at the other end of the room, was plugged into an outlet on existing circuit. I noticed some hum was being introduced into the system when watching movies, that wasn't there when just listening to music. So last night I ran a line from that new outlet to the outlet for the projector and removed line for the other circuit. Now that everything is on a single circuit, hum is gone!

Need to tidy up the shelves some. Still have some junk on them that needs to get sorted, and books in boxes that need to be put out.

Hi Barry.
I am packing up and cleaning up all our stuff accumulated in the past 23 years
prior to our big move to Canada.
What I find the most difficult is to choose in the zillions items :
What I will keep,
what I will give,
what I will recycle and
what I will trash.
For me packing is fun, but choosing makes me dizzy.
I hope you don't have the same problem.

Well Charles, we can do music video, or just CD, or even Vinyl
The Surround goes through the 2-Channel system, rather then the other way around.

WOW, Barry, I was at your place once, loooong ago, don't quite remember how big it is.  Now, you MUST have ballooned it into such fantastic quarters.  Congrats!

Thanks Shek, same room as before, but it feels a little bigger as there's less junk in it now ;)

Wow, I haven't been to this site for like couple of months, and I really can say I didn't miss a beat?  The Hi-Fi business reallllly has slowed down.  I got several notices of the show in D.C. over the last couple of months, that was about it.

Anyone planning a gettogether, for "Holiday"'s sake?

Shek

I don't think it's dying. But it is changing so that a lot of things we're familiar with are not the same. But I would say that in general the biggest thing that's making it problematic is young people don't have enough money to buy better stuff. So you have expensive and cheaper stuff being the majority, in between isn't that popular.

Also styles of living are changing, too. It's not a surprise that a lot of people don't want giant speakers or entire rooms arranged for the stereo. But the real question to me is why isn't the sound compelling enough to make people go for that sacrifice? That brings up a lot of questions.

I think Barry is smart to double his room as a home theater, so everyone can enjoy it.
