Title: Best current places to sell gear / old inventory?
Post by: hometheaterdoc on November 16, 2020, 09:02:10 PM
Hey all!

Incredibly looooong time no talk.

Way too much real life, medical issues, etc. that have kept me away from the hobby and even my audio business.

I’ll spare y’all the truly mind boggling crazy story of the last few years as no one would believe the craziness we have had to live through.

I now have a basement floor covered with boxes of audio gear from the storage that I haven’t seen in a while.  When I’m physically able, I’m verrrry slowly going through it all and taking some new pictures, documenting all that is still here, what has to be sold, etc.  i need to clear this stuff out of here finally.

Since I have been away for so long, I’m curious what has changed in the industry, where the current best places are to advertise and sell this gear?  is audiogon still the best spot / de facto standard?   Is stuff more frequently sold on eBay?  Are there any new, good popular sites that people are using?

Curious to hear thoughts from everyone.  Thanks in advance.

Audiogon has increased their prices but you'll still get the most views

US Audiomart is free and growing

Thanks for the reply!  Appreciate it.  I’ve used the USA audio mart before.  It didn’t get the views and customer base of audiogon.  But I’ll run listings there too when I put up the stuff.  Thanks again.

I’ve had success on Audiocircle also. No charges.

I always try the free sites first:  USAM, AC, AA.

If stuff doesn't sell after much time, AG as a last resort.

It is good to hear from you. I primarily use US Audio Mart and sometimes AC. Audiogon does get more views, but I don’t care for their fee structure.

Even though technically this is leftover inventory from the audio business, because of all my surgical procedures and stuff, I haven’t actually run the business for a few years now.  This is leftover assets and I guess technically would be a personal sale at this point.

Website has essentially been turned off even though I kept the URLs and maintained my credit card service and some web hosting.  Probably should have let that all go as it was wasted money each month for min fees.  In my drugged up addled brain, I guess needed something to keep up the pipe dream I’d be able to go back to everything as if nothing changed, etc.  But given how limited I am each day now, any chance of that happening is essentially impossible...  but I do miss just having a nice room and setup or two and being able to hang with all my old audio buddies...  so do want to get back to just being an audiophile if not selling anything...

Long way of saying, if this is from a former business, can I use audio circle?  I thought they were anti business over there unless you had a circle or advertised with them or something?  Or am I misremembering that?

Thanks for all the replies.  I’ll try to get a list up here as well...

I was beginning to wonder why we hadn’t, heard from you in such a while. Sorry to hear that you have been having a rough time.

As for AC perhaps it might be a good idea for you to just sign up with a new user name that  so that the account has no history of being associated  with a business. You can certainly explain who you are and that these are now personal sales, but at least the post wouldn’t be automatically tagged as a business transaction.

Just a thought.

And of course you always post things here.  :thumb:

Apparently John R. has loosened the rules lately on Industry Participant sales.  In fact just today Fred (gopher) from Lampizator sold a preamp on the site with nothing said.

Lots of headphone stuff, DACs, headphone amps, music streamers, speakers, amplifiers, subwoofers, etc...  not sure what I will need for cables...  so going to hold some of that stuff a bit longer.

So a little bit of everything....  no need to hang onto 8 sets of everything...

Let me figure out / remember how to copy and paste the excel spreadsheet list of stuff in a format that looks presentable...

Edited to remove list of stuff that wasn't updated... please see stand alone posts with running lists of remaining stock items.

I have a horde of photos to add as well...  still organizing them into individual folders per item and get matching file names so I can keep track of what is what....

for new, sealed stuff I tried to get pics of a demo unit,  if I had one, as an example to show what the thing was and looks like...otherwise it’s a picture of a sealed box which isn’t very helpful...  will try, if felling well enough, to get this better cleaned up and post more this weekend.   If my prices are out of line, please pm or email me examples of where it is currently advertising for less...  everything is either new, sealed or ultra low hours demo stuff..  when you have so much gear on display, there wasn’t any way to put lots of use and hours on all these things....

crap just noticed list is missing all the ps audio and bakoon and the rest of the auralic stuff as well as a few other brands of gear and types of equipment..... and I totally forgot I do have a few trade in items like a VPI turntable and random phono preamps and a few other odds and ends I forgot was here...I swear I will get organized at some point...  all this medicine they have me on makes me into a forgetful idiot at times...  apologies..  let me know if you have any questions about anything...  thanks...

Shane!   Dude, it has been way, way too long, but it's great to hear from you.    I was kinda wondering whatever happened to the houseful of inventory you still had last time I saw you.    Still in Durham?    Sorry to hear of all the medical challenges you've been through.

Not sure if there's anything on your list that I might be interested in but I'll certainly take a close look.   You should still have my email and I'd love to hear from you.   It has been way too long.   I can only imagine your son is now heading off to college (well, OK, it just seems that long ago since we touched base).

Take care!

I’m back over in Raleigh, NC now Mike :)  I’ll try to get in touch soon...  need to catch up with so many people I lost touch with while all this has been going on...  heck, I now live around the corner from one of the old regulars assuming he still lives there... I know he retired a while back... so he might have moved...

I also need to get the rest of the stuff not yet listed added in.  I’m shooting for this holiday weekend to get wife’s help on the rest of it and getting the last few pictures etc...  then I can also start advertising on the other sites as well that folks confirmed were good choices...

I’m updating the list on the first page and will also add it likely to the first message (or just start a new thread) as stuff goes to sale pending and sold.  I removed a couple items over the past day or two and will keep doing that as it all changes...  thanks to all that have gotten in touch and those that have taken advantage of the sale.  I hope you enjoy the purchases for many years to come :)
