DIY speaker & interconnect cables.

(1/1)

Guy 13:
Hi all.
A few years back,
I've decided to try making my own speaker & Interconnect cables
with local (Planet Vietnam) stuff, well, bought locally,
but Made in China.
My speaker cables are really copper power cables (14 ga.) with banana connectors.
10 feet each side plus eight (08) connector, total cost :
Less than 20 USD for the whole thing.
How do they sound you might ask ?
Good for the price.
For the interconnect, I found some fairly good quality bullet connectors
and sheilded wire look good too.
One meter long IC with four connector gold color plate, not real gold, that's for sure.
Total cost for a pair : Less than 15 USD.
To me, they sound as good as a pair of known cable but at more than three times cheaper.
For the interconnect, I will not do that again with my 30 years old Weller 100-140 watts
welding gun. Way too big for a delicate job like that.
I made about 20 pairs of interconnect and five pairs of speaker cables.
I'm glad I did it, but might not do it again.

I am sure they sound OK. I prefer to purchase well engineered, measured, blind tested product priced right. No need for overpriced exotic cabling IMO. Crystal, Siltech, MIT, Tara, Nordost and many more all are better no question however not worth the money spent.

I'll agree that it is fun trying. One never knows what to expect. Sometimes just get lucky and make an excellent cable.
